derrick favors trade speculation

Doesn't Boston have one of Brooklyn's draft picks from the Gerald Wallace trade or is that somebody else?

Yeah, I think Boston has Brookyln's 2016 draft pick unprotected. That is a pretty good pick.

Yah, they have 2 Brooklyn picks actually:

2016 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Brooklyn's 2016 1st round pick to Boston [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

2017 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Boston has the right to swap its 2017 1st round pick for Brooklyn's 2017 1st round pick; if Boston exercises this swap right, then Boston will convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Brooklyn protected for selections 31-45 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Boston's obligation to Brooklyn will be extinguished) [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]; this potential pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2017 first round draft pick from Boston" on Brooklyn Credits

Also have the option to swap picks with the Nets in 2017.

Celtics made the Nets their bitch in that trade.

Yeah, let's trade the big we developed into a nice player over several years for a pick that may or may not yield us a big that we can develop into a nice player in a few years.

/facepalm

I agree.

This next draft is about bigs right? Those are the best players coming out.

I wouldn't trade Favors just to start over on redeveloping another big. Who may or may not pan out.

I'm not against the idea of exploring trades though. For him or for Kanter. With the emergence of Gobert, it gives us the opportunity, and maybe even it's best idea, to trade one for another need. I'm not sure what exactly. But given the current circumstances, I think we should be open to trades.

Favors would have to bring back a lot of assets to trade him away. A good young player plus picks.

Would anyone do Giannis for Favors straight up? Would Milwaukee? Probably not. They probably value him pretty high.

Maybe we have to send a pick or two.

That's kinda deal I would be looking to do.

Imagine this team.

Gobert
Kanter
Giannis
Hayward
Exum

That a pretty nice scoring and defensive punch.

I think the discussion is moot because, unlike people on this forum, Jazz FO understands how these things work. They will not be trading Favors unless it's one helluva deal. Favors is effective on both ends of the floor, he's very young and has shown meaningful improvement every year (bigs take forever to properly develop), and he seems like he's happy playing for Utah without much regard to maximizing his income. He's truly a rare type of player/person.

If Gobert continues to improve, and it's likely he will, then he should be playing starter minutes next year. What happens from there will be interesting. I don't think Kanter has the potential to be a great player, but if he can be had for cheap, then he'll be an awesome third big to have. If not, then the Jazz should let him go since they'll have to pay Gobert soon after. If the Jazz trade Favors, they're guaranteed to resign Kanter. And there is a chance he'll demand more money than Favors. We will have lost a gem of a player for an inferior and more expensive one. So you've used the "rebuilding" process to make your team worse. That is unless the team trades Favors for a young stud who makes us better now. And that's an extremely unlikely scenario.
