Devin Harris = Jazz MVP?

Not a chance that he is the MVP. If I had to choose I'd pick Millsap with Hayward as an outside pick. Harris woiuld be no where in the convo.

I'm 78% sure that HeavenHarris is actually Devin himself.

If so then Devin stay agressive. You are much better that way. Push the tempo and hit the open man more. Also give a damn every game and not only some.

Keep going pal. How important would you say Devin is to this team?
I see he's not in your top 2. Is he the 3rd most important player? What about top 5? top 10?

I would suggest to HeavenHarris that he look at Devin's numbers (objectively now, no excuses) and ask himself if those numbers warrant an MVP designation. You are looking at our Mr. Harris through rose colored glasses. I have no hate for Devin or for you HeavenHarris but you are up in the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least six players are clearly more valuable to this team than Devin.

Are we talking right now or long term? He is more important right now than he is long term. Right now I'd say top 5, long term top 10.

Harris and Tinsley; yes. Harris and Watson; still a loss.

wrong. watson was way better than tinsley last night.

but i agree with the original poster -- devin plays in that game and we win by 10. so much of the problem was that we weren't getting into any kind of offensive rhythm, and that would have looked different with harris in.

Challenge accepted buddy.

Now, what "numbers" specifically did you want me to look at? The best stat I know of that tries to encompass a big chunk of the game into one number is Player Efficiency Rating. Now, PER measures the offensive side of the game much better than defense, but it's my opinion that Harris is one of the better defenders on this team, especially at the point.
Nevertheless, let's take a look at PER. For players who have played at least 1300 minutes this season, Devin Harris ranks 3rd in overall PER behind Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson. Now, anyone who's watched the Jazz this season knows the offense is built around these two guys--the ball almost always touches one of their hands on most possessions. These two big men have the highest usage rate by far on the roster, combining for a usage rate of almost 50%. Thus, it's pretty easy to see why these guys excel statistically, especially on offense--they get the ball damn near every possession and defense is tough to measure statistically!

Now, understanding all the above, is it crazy to suggest Devin Harris is top 3 on this team in terms of importance? I don't.
If you factor in the fact that in general the Jazz are pretty deep at the C/PF positions but very thin at PG in terms of quality, then Devin's importance raises up another notch. I think it's not bold to claim Devin Harris as being top 3 in terms of importance. The offense is built around Al/Sap, so it's tough to say Harris is more important than them--by looking at the past, but going forward, I think the offense is fundamentally flawed--and that Harris should be more involved in the offense, and that his usage rate should be higher than 18.5% IF this team wants to improve from the level it's currently on and make some noise in the playoffs. Therefore, it seems to me it's very plausible to say Devin Harris is currently one of the top 3 most important players on the Jazz, and going forward, arguably the #1 most important i.e. MVP.

Maybe saying Devin is in the top 3 in terms of importance is looking at it through rose colored glasses, but perhaps you are the one viewing this through poop-colored glasses if you think he's at best #7.

Are we talking right now or long term? He is more important right now than he is long term. Right now I'd say top 5, long term top 10.

Let's stick with the present. Long term can be highly unpredictable due to free agency, draft, trades, etc.
Right now top 5? I can agree with that. Where exactly would you peg him, 1-5?

still not going as far as saying he's the jazz's mvp... but we just needed better execution on a handful of plays last night, and neither earl nor jamaal were doing well in that regard.

Why is Devin always hurt? He doesn't even play that many minutes

What if we doubled his minutes, would he be hurt double too?
