Diaw's contract question.

Anyone know if his contract is in play for potential trades?
When do the Jazz have to renounce his rights on the team option, just curious if he could be a potential piece in a big trade for say like Paul George...obviously better pieces involved, but those contracts and picks are cheap, we'd need a big one to even things out.
Maybe we'd be able to convince him to sign long-term, or worst case a rental.

It's not really a team option but next year's salary is not guaranteed. It becomes fully guaranteed on July 15. That actually gives a longer window to use it in a trade. Unless we're landing a Love / George / Lillard type person I expect us to simply waive him.

Cool thanks, all trades that happen now actually don't become really official until July 1st correct?
So the jazz have a little time to dangle the non guaranteed contract for a bigger fish like you said love, George, Hilliard or perhaps Bledsoe.
George for pennies on the dollar is enticing...it will be interesting to see what he gets traded for.

I hope that Utah picks up Diaw's contract. He seemed to be a good leader and lockeroom presence. Good passer and team will need that ball movement this year without a go-to scorer. Plus, a starting power forward price at %7.5m is a steal these days and his contract immediately becomes a tradable asset from now until deadline.

At this point we will waive his contract. It is the right thing to do. We can re-sign him still and he'd get a smaller number.
