What's new

Dick Bavetta

I think Eenie Meenie is just fine and dandy. Certainly not the worst poster around here, not by a long shot.

Perhaps one of the more persistent with his arguments though.

And let's not diss the older folks either. I'm no spring chicken myself. And I resemble that remark.

:-)

I'll admit to being obsessive-compulsive. Any psychologists out there offering treatment?

Yes, I agree with this too ... but the strip of Malone by Jordan is difficult to assess because the TV camera was facing Malone's back and we couldn't see if Jordan hacked him or not. Have you seen a different view of it?

...all I'm saying is that many a ref has called a "hack" when a player comes from behind and wacks the ball as hard as Jordan did on that Malone steal! Was it clean? Probably. Could it have been called in our favor, on our home court, with two superstars like Malone and Stockton on the team? ABSOLUTELY!!! By the way, I think I read somewhere that Brevetta did apologize to Malone and Stockton about blowing those calls on the 3 point shots, the one that shouldn't have been counted....and the one that should have been counted! That's a 6 point swing, that would have sent us into game 7...which the Bull's would have NEVER won!!!

Did you watch the video they posted in this thread? It actually does look like Jordan hacked Malone when he made that steal.

A six point swing coming out of halftime doesn't in any way shape or form mean that the Jazz get to game 7. You can't simply add and subtract points from the final score like that and say that would have been the outcome. Jordan was an amazing player that is probably the greatest of all time as far as finding a way to win a game. You change the score early in the game and you change everything that happens in the game from that point forward. Who the hell knows if that six point swing gives us the win or leads to a huge rally by the Bulls and we lose by 15. There's no way to know.

You have a point but let me ask you..... Would you rather have those calls go in the jazz favor (in other words, the correct calls) or were you happy or indifferent with those calls, since according to you, they might not really matter?

Ya me too

Of course I want the correct call to be made, or even for the Jazz to get a call that should have gone the other way, but making a definitive statement like, Jazz lost by 2 points so if you add six to the Jazz score the Jazz win the game is just wrong.

Especially when they were being Bavetted.

Watch the bleepin video in slow-mo. Jordan follows through with a push to the side of Russell's hip and you see Russell moved directly in line with the motion of Jordan's hand / arm.

I've watched it a million times. Perhaps it's time to see a doctor about those cataracts, eh gramps?

Either you or me is in denial, and I'm pretty sure it's you.
There is so much wrong with this thread that it's mind boggling. Even if you are right (and I don't think there's anything near clear evidence that you are) it's time to move on, EM. How could you possibly be delusional enough to believe that writing a letter to Bavetta would result in some new resolution to this matter? Unbelievable.

I don't expect anything. Just wondering what he would say, if he did say anything. Maybe he will say what Cappy says. He believes there was a lot of contact between both players and he thought it should be a no-call. Probably, I would expect he'd say something like that.

I can tell you exactly what he will say so that you can save your postage:

NOTHING!

The idea that he might decide to communicate with you and in the process slip up and reveal a clue to some nefarious fixing scheme is beyond ludicrous.

As has already been brought up, the true crime was taking away an Eisely 3 that easily beat the shot clock and giving Harper a 3 that was clearly a shot clock violation. Both plays came late enough in the 2nd half that the fact that the Jazz got screwed on a 6 point swing, definitely changed the outcome of the game.

I've never been one to pin a loss on officials, but that loss is indeed all on Bavetta. It didn't cost the Jazz the series, but it cost them a game 7 at home, with the best home court advantage in the world.

I think it all depends on how I approach the topic. If I'm not accusatory and just ask him what he saw, he might provide an answer. Of course, he's not going to admit any wrongdoing. So, what's 50 cents? No big deal.

Earlier you said you thought there was a chance you might catch him slipping up. At least you're becoming a little more sane as this conversation moves along.

Oh well. Good luck with your little project. Please tell Bavetta that we hate him.

Dick Bavetta will be dead soon. Mark my words.

Let's just let the POS die.

....the fact of the matter is this: When you reach the finals, the two teams playing are generally the two best in the league and very evenly matched! The difference between winning and losing at that stage is razor thin! That 6 point swing could easily have pushed us into game 7 and with the health of both Pippen and Jordan in question....the Bull's don't come out of game 7 alive in my opinion! But it's all "wouldas, couldas, and shouldas" now, ain't it? I'm just saying a 6 point swing in the favor of the Bull's put them in a distinct advantage....and it was Brevetta's fault, NO NEED IN DUCKIN IT! Had there been instant replay back then, the Jazz would more than likely have one NBA championship in the books!
