I like many things about the kid but he doesn't seem much reliable at certain things. Like he said himself, he will have to earn the things he want.
At this point, with his current shaky dribbling I can see him having a lot of trouble bringing the ball up against ultra quick NBA guards. We could still give him a chance from the beginning if we don't care about winning much, but it could back fire with him having problems and too many turnovers and losing a bit of his confidence.
Trey's a fighter and he won't let some 'kid' who hasn't even played college ball to just suddenly 'take over the reign' when Trey has had to endure 2 years of college and last year running the point for the Jazz.
As an aside - do you remember the Magic team that went to the 2009 Finals? Jameer Nelson was injured, so step up back up PG Rafer Alston who was very underrated and led a team of Dwight Howard (who was a beast in those series), Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis all the way to the Finals to face the Lakers. Rafer Alston was playing well, moving the ball, shooting well, and developed good chemistry within the team mainly because he was playing unselfish. Jameer was a bit of a ball hog and was a bit of a hero ball fan.
When the reached the Finals vs the Lakers, Jameer insisted that he is now 'recovered' and demands that he starts against the Lakers. We all know the rest of what happened. The chemistry that was developed during the playoff run was gone. The Magic lost 4-1 to the Lakers and that team never reached the same heights again.
SVG tried to start Alston in game 3, but by that time it was already too late. The chemistry was gone, all because Jameer wanted to 'be the man' and win the ring 'on the court' rather than sitting on the bench.
