Proposed this in the wishlist thread, but I'm super intrigued by it. First, I think DM is better off as a point guard and that he would benefit tremendously from having another creator and shooter on the floor.

Everyone is gaga over Bradley Beal... He's very good and I'd love to have him. He'd cost all the assets we have... and that may not be enough. So you look for off-brand options... like

Tim Hardaway Jr. - Some numbers... 24.4 pts per game on 42.4%/37%/84% shooting splits. TS% of 57% The biggest change year over year is he is getting to the line more. He's getting to the line 6.6 times per game, which is more than double what he did last year. The rest is pretty close to his normal averages... just a little more volume. If DM was putting up those numbers we'd be elated.

Some more shooting numbers... He shoots 2.8 pullup 3s per game at 36%... for reference Beal is 34.8% on 1.4 attempts. Tim also is shooting 38% on 5.4 catch and shoot threes per game. Beal is 32.4% on 6 attempts.

Tim is not a big assist guy at 2.8 per game, but that is okay for a 2 guard. Defense is tough to measure, but in Atlanta the defense was the same with him on and off the floor. NY the defense is bad but there are really too many bad defensive players there to pinpoint one problem.

I'm not saying Hardaway is better than Beal... but right now it is close. Tim makes less (8-9M less per year) than Beal and I think he could be had for just expiring contracts. We can still play in FA for other needs or make a trade to address the stretch 4 need.

It is not good to be completely dependent on DM for offensive creation... we are running Joe into the ground. If DM misses time we need another 20 pt. scorer. I think it will put additional responsibility on DM that he may struggle with, but will remove the pressure to go for 25-30 every night. Will also make teams decide which of their perimeter defenders they need to commit to DM. Long term I think DM needs to play more as a pg.

So eff hoarding cap space for guys that ain't coming and may not be better than what we could get now. It is time.

They arent just going to give him away for free and its feel like a bad idea to buy high on a good stats/bad team player.

I think they might... they need to get off of his contract and Lee's if they want a chance at 2 max guys. The reason they are able to move him for just expirings is because he is playing well. They would not have been able to do it in the summer as teams thought the contract still looked bad.

It reminds me a bit of the Oladipo deal. People though Indiana was dumb for taking on his deal... thought he was not positive value... they were wrong. I don't think Tim is going to that level, but I see nothing about what he is doing that makes me think he's just gunning. Watched him last night and he had Turner on him and Nurkic at the rim and was able to score/get to the line in the clutch.

I don't know how much extra I'd give up to get him... taking on Lee would take us out of FA basically. I just think we need to use the expirings to get good players rather than recruiting stars. I think we have to draft stars... so I'm not giving up a pick.

Also... I mean Devin Booker and Bradley Beal are both good stats bad team guys too... Hardaway has produced on a similar level. He functioned well in Atlanta in a similar system.

Defensive metrics are tough to trust.. he plays with Kanter, Burke, Mudiay, Knox and all are horrific defensive players... His offensive impact outweighs his defense. I think he is below average, but I don't think he is bottom 5 at all.

Exum is one of the worst defenders in the NBA? Totally sounds like a meaningful stat.

His last year in Atlanta the defense was as good when he was on the court as it was when he was off it. NY is pretty awful defensively so I'm not sure there is any measure that will isolate all the problems.

The smart deal for NY is to trade Hardaway with Lee. If NY could do that for expirings, they could offer two max deals this summer. They could dream of Durant, KP and another max guy.

I bet Favors, Burks and 2nd rounders could get NY listening. We would be so much better if we made that switch.

Y'all remember what people used to say about THJR pre-draft here? I do. Many were convinced he was just riding the coattails of Trey Burke. LOL. My stance that Hardaway Jr is a 1st rd pick was extremely unpopular. I recall a really stupid argument where someone said "all he does is shoot 3's and has a crossover"and I was trying to explain that he's dangerous in transition too, but they werent hearing it.

PEOPLE HERE LIKED SERGEY KARASEV better! (Karasev was one of the players I red-flagged as a bust)

Also pretty much everyone preferred Reggie Bullock who's turned out to be great value from that spot as well.

This trade will never, ever happen though. you think their gonna trade Burks plus assets for Hardaway? who's got a player option for 20-21 after drafting SG's in consecutive years? If they over-allocate into the SG spot like that after years of doing it with the PG position, it'll curtail their trajectory for sure.

Dude hasnt been impactful this year on defense.

I know steals dont equal defense, but .2 steals per game for a guy with his speed/length combination is pathetic.

I prefer Beal, as he's a two way player. But if we don't have the assets, then Hardaway is a nice consolation prize. The Jazz desperately need shooters.

Deal like this has major potential to backfire...
