What's new

DL it is Time - Go Get Tim Hardaway Jr.

The smart deal for NY is to trade Hardaway with Lee. If NY could do that for expirings, they could offer two max deals this summer. They could dream of Durant, KP and another max guy.

I bet Favors, Burks and 2nd rounders could get NY listening. We would be so much better if we made that switch.

That is likely what they would try to do. Lee is useful if he ever gets healthy... at that point we are not doing anything in free agency.

I would do the deal now if DL liked it and I'd have it be Ricky and AB. I think Lee would be a decent fit with Exum on the second unit. If I got Hardaway I would not be starting Ricky.

The reason I really like the idea of Hardaway is if we got it done without extra salary considerations we can still move enough stuff around to have conversations with Middleton, Harris, and Niko.

Y'all remember what people used to say about THJR pre-draft here? I do. Many were convinced he was just riding the coattails of Trey Burke. LOL. My stance that Hardaway Jr is a 1st rd pick was extremely unpopular. I recall a really stupid argument where someone said "all he does is shoot 3's and has a crossover"and I was trying to explain that he's dangerous in transition too, but they werent hearing it.

PEOPLE HERE LIKED SERGEY KARASEV better! (Karasev was one of the players I red-flagged as a bust)

Also pretty much everyone preferred Reggie Bullock who's turned out to be great value from that spot as well.

This trade will never, ever happen though. you think their gonna trade Burks plus assets for Hardaway? who's got a player option for 20-21 after drafting SG's in consecutive years? If they over-allocate into the SG spot like that after years of doing it with the PG position, it'll curtail their trajectory for sure.

I remember that too... there was so much outrage on your THJr. is a first rounder take... this board was soooooooo pro-Karasev... we are all dumb-dumbs.

If we offered Rubio, Burks, Thabo and our 2019 1st, we could get Hardaway, Lee and probably Nkilitina right now.

New York gets to clear out all that space AND get a 1st AND tank big time. I would love that deal for both teams.

Nklilitna and Donovan are really close. He is really raw, but worth it long term. NY won't start him next year if they get Durant and another.

I think Frank is pretty much trash... I'm not interested in another Dante potential guy. I'd rather leave the first and Frank out of it. Maybe... Maybe.... if we found a home for Dante, but I think Frank is gonna be a bust.

I'm not saying Hardaway is better than Beal... but right now it is close. Tim makes less (8-9M less per year) than Beal and I think he could be had for just expiring contracts. We can still play in FA for other needs or make a trade to address the stretch 4 need.

Thank goodness the other GMs in the league aren't smart enough to recognize Hardaway is almost as good as Beal and for a much better price, or it would be difficult to acquire him.

I just crunched the numbers and NY has to go scorched earth for two big max guys. I don't know that KD would come if there wasn't another star coming too. They can probably still get in the Kyrie, Kemba race if their teams don't pony up the five year deals. They need to move one of Lee or Hardaway to get to one max assuming they pick fairly high.

I mean GMs put premiums on names a lot. The Blake trade last year is an example. I personally thought Tobias was about as good as Blake especially when you consider contract... they gave Tobias and a valuable pick to get Blake.

The impression I got from listening to some well respected NBA types is that they would want to get off of that contract. Might not be true anymore.

There also aren't a lot of good fits I can see among teams that have space next year and are willing to forego FA. Weird stuff happens it is not a perfectly efficient market.

Here's my interesting and crazy take.

In a normal profession, it takes 20 years for one's mind to reach expert level in a profession. I am partial to these athletes that have been around the game a long time and have been nurtured in a high IQ basketball environment which Tim Hardaway has (and Steph Curry). I am not saying he is Steph Curry, but I confident that he will continue to be an efficient offense player (his 20 plus years around the game is next three years and I think his best three to five years are about to hit) and he would be a great player and potentially a super savy move for the front office to make. I would love it.

I agree with the first part of the thread title..."DL it is Time - Go."
No other GM gets paid as much to do as little. And what does he have, two other former GM's as assistants or something like that?

The Jazz need sharp shooters since 4-5 seasons but DL is always passive in the free agency.
