What's new

DL talks about Hayward's extension.

perfect post for my "worry thread".

Do we have enough bullets in the chamber? This build is working right now, but it's on the fence in terms working long-term.

I think unless you have a super duper star it is a constant shuffling of deck chairs to control costs. Need some good cost controlled pieces... need guys like Ingles to not get huge offers... need to make fit a priority now that we know the main core.

Will have to do without some of the depth luxuries... Example can't have Burks and Exum... so pick one. Favs either needs to be an all-star level player or we need to move him... don't get to have the "best backup center".

If we hit on a pick or two this summer and Exum or Lyles is a good/great rotation piece starting next year we should have no problem. We also have draft assets to grease the wheels and get some trades done.

This summer is the key to the next 5 years... no pressure DL.

Well put. Good post.

I worry that Gobert and Hayward are not good enough to get us all the way to the promised land.
I guess the glass half full way to think about it is that I'm certain that they are good enough to get us a lot of playoff games in the coming years.

Bontemps had some words on the realgm podcast on the mismanagement of jazz capspace. Pretty much echoed my sentiment that either they are okay not spending money, mis-evaluated the trade market, or had not done enough homework on what the renegotiate and extend deals would cost, but both guys found it puzzling we did nothing.

With a $102M salary cap next year, it is possible for the team to sign both Hayward and Hill to approx. $20M a year...

There are about 5 teams that would love to have Gordon accept their $30+M per year max offer this summer. Yet you somehow expect DL to convince him to sign in Utah for $20M? Seems like you need to re-calibrate your expectations.

P.S.
Also, the only way Hill signs for approx. $20M is if he suffers a significant injury.

Well, as you know, I've been barking from the deck of that boat for a couple of years now. This deadline may be a bigger faux pas than the off-season before last. #buttheylltotallyspendthatmoneysomeday

There's a chance this is the right take. Which makes the hand-sitting/cakk-bakking at the deadline all the more puzzling.

But,

was annoying seeing tucker and lou had for what they were had for.

Yeah and now with JJ sitting we don't really have the small ball four... I mean Hayward there a bit but I don't want him guarding other fours that much.

When we sell one of our second rounders this year I will be more upset.

I've been out of the loop (and JFC hasn't started a thread as far as I can see): wtf is wrong with JJ?

Sore groin. I doubt it's serious. Quin said before the break that he wanted to start resting players periodically after all-star break.

Right there with you...

I love the team we have... this is not whining... just wondering why we bypass opportunities to get better or maximize expiring assets.

I hope that's the case. Really smart move if true. I do wonder if we aren't playing favors more for the same reason. 4-7 matters less to me than having healthy fresh guys... JJ has become super important to our success.

^sad, and presumably repentant bakker^

you need to re-check your history. I was only advocating cake-baking for that exact season (mentioned that specifically, several times back then) and said that 2016-2017 was the year we need to make a convincing run in order to convince Hayward to stay.

I thought standing pat in 2016 in the preceding offseason, and until the trade deadline, was a good idea. I have made like 4 trade threads for PJ Tucker since the end of last season.

Simply put, you're wrong.

IDK if it's true to this case, but Quin/DL said they wanted to rest players post All-Star break.

Dalamon is a cakk baker unless it comes to players he has had on his fantasy basketball team in recent years, then he wants to add those players above all other things.

Piggybacking off of this, I would much rather have Lou Williams and PJ Tucker on this team, with the contracts they're currently on, than signing Danny Green or Demarre Carroll to multi-year, up to 20 million dollar deals (two moves you advocated for). How's bulldog-demarre doing

Danny Green would be way better than Lou Will or PJ Tucker. He is on a great contract.
