Except the NBA budgets for exponential growth, as do most of the teams. Also, fantasy basketball will never take off like Fantasy Football because it is more than a once a week thing. The gambling thing will certainly be interesting. I don't see how the NBA makes the casinos pay them like the TV networks pay them.

Relevant for what? For whether Davis was justified in his request?

Every deal for a player of Davis's stature is made with certain types of assurances, even if they are not written into the contract.

Contracts are all that really matter.

I don't know either... I just wonder if the gaming/gambling side can get monetized and make up for what they lose in tv and advertising dollars.

I agree with the overall concept you are throwing out there. My view might be a little tinted because my son would rather play fortnite, watch fortnite videos online, or talk about fortnite with his friends before he does any sporting activity. And he is actually pretty athletic... just isn't as interested. Many of his friends are much more obsessed with video games... just feels like a big shift will happen. I'm not sure how much esports cuts into the market share of other sport stuff.

Contracts matter. He said/she said does not, as far as what is required to be honored, yes the contract is all that has to be honored. The he said/she said stuff doesn’t.

TV isn't the lead advertising driver anymore, it's the internet. The NBA runs twitter. The fact that franchise values are sky rocketing should tell you that monetization isn't a real issue

On that matter, nothing Davis has said has stopped him from honoring his contract. If you really believed that the contracted is all that has to be honored, you wouldn't have a problem with Davis's behavior.

Now, please continue to disagree on some other inconsistent point.

I’m not sure what you do. If they removed Max salaries it might help but would turn into stars making even more and middling players less.

Some sort of franchise tag system that requires teams to get draft comp if you sign their guys would be good... restricted FA kinda already works that way.

Well the publicly requesting a trade part he was fined for and is something he isn’t supposed to do so yeah that part matters.

I definitely agree with this but I will say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen this kind of parity in the league in all my years of following the sport - and there are many small market teams doing much, much better than the big market teams (Chicago, NY, LA). The fact that Milwaukee, Denver, OKC, Toronto, Portland, etc. are all doing great is nothing short of a miracle.

Imagine if the damn Warriors didn’t have 5 all stars - the championship would truly be wide open. Too bad.
