In his five minutes spent discussing Hayward, Sloan — not usually a name-dropper — managed references to Walt Frazier (because of his ability to play with the vision of a point guard, which the 6-foot-8 Hayward played when he was a 5-4 eighth-grader), Willis Reed (who also came from a small school, Grambling) and Hayward's fellow Hoosier Larry Bird (for his persistence and ability to think "above the rest of the play").

Well I guess Sloan is really happy with the pick.

Also when I woke up this morning Hayward seems to have more and more similarities to Bird. Got a small school to national championship game. Not considered athletic enough for small forward. Known to be ridiculously competive.

"Dribble penetration" sounds pretty much like the Jazz game plan....EVERY GAME! Spread the floor, keep the defense honest....give Boozer some room to work with.....Oh, wait! We ain't got boozer no more!

Dude, you're looking at a highlight film of one of the few games he shot well from the 3 point line. You might want to take a larger sample size, like checking his season avg for 3 point shooting to get a more accurate assessment.

Anyone can use a tiny sample size to prove whatever they want. Today, Salt Lake City is going to be hotter than Bagdad, Iraq. One could then assume that Salt Lake City is hotter than Baghdad.
Take a larger sample size, like the avg annual mean, and you'll see that the yearly avg temp in Iraq is nearly 40 degrees higher than Salt Lake City.

In other words, take a larger sample size. I know you want to convince others that Hayward was a good pick. You have a right to believe in whatever way you want. However, if you're going to try and debate why, then at least use accurate and logical means. Don't deceive or BS your way through it.

Last year Hayward shot 44% from 3 his FRESHMAN SEASON!!!! True, he shot bad this year, but Im going to consider that an off year. Why? Because he is still an 80% free throw shooter and 50% shooter from the field.

His freshman year he was an elite shooter, his sophmore year he slumped from 3, probably from an expanded role, more difficult shots. But the fact remains, if teams leave him open, he is more than capable of nailing the 3. You say he cant shoot, that is completely wrong. He isnt going to have to take step back 3's off the dribble like he did in Butler. He will be a good NBA 3 point shooter, if not great.

Ha. You rail him for not taking a larger sample size, then you do the same by limiting it to this year. Why don't you look at the full sample? The kid hit 37% of his 314 three point attempts in college.

He regressed 15 percentage points from his freshman to sophomore year from college level 3 pointers. That seems like a serious red flag to me.
