Do we have it?

Have we got starting 5 (at least for the near future)?

Exum/Burke
Burks/Hood
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

In this group of 7 do we have the starting 5 we need?
If yes then we are just adding depth.
If NO then which spot is the weakest link?

We need a go-to scorer. Could be Burks, but his D will have to improve to hold down the starting gig, and his 3 pter will need to continue to improve (really impressive on catch and shoots this year). As impressive as Hayward has been, I'm just not sure that he's enough. In the 19 games Hayward has played in post-Kanter he's had 6 games where he shot sub 40%, with 4 of those being in the 20% fg realm.

If Burks isn't that dude, we need a really good 3 & D. Someone who can't be left on offense, but won't hurt us on defense. Need to see more Hood, but he could be that guy.

Either or and we're well on our way.

Jazz need a 3rd big (tomic?) and another wing. Depending on who they get for the wing, then could go a lot of different ways.
I like Exum/hood/hayward/favors/Rudy. If they got a SG, they would need hood to come off the bench to play SF. If they get a good 3 & D guy (Winslow, Johnson, Carrolle) then I think you start Hayward at SG and bring Hood off the bench to play SF also.

I personally want to get Winslow. Would love to have a 6'6" PG, 6'8" sg, 6'8" big bodied SF, 6'10" PF, and 7'2" C who are all above average defensively. If Hayward is your weak link defensively, then you have a pretty strong defense. Burke, Burks, Hood, Tomic is a pretty good bench. Winslow could even play some PF on the second team to get more minutes. Don't really need more than 9 guys getting regular minutes.

I echo the "100% depends on Exum" bit.

We need a massive boost in the backcourt. Trey is what he is. I think Hood and Burks will improve but will never be the best guard on a championship caliber team.

If Dante can turn into that guy, this team could contend.

I really hope we can see Hood at full throttle next year. Poor kid can't seem to catch a break.

Maybe...

I'm comfortable with what we have and our chances. Our defense is top notch, and that can carry us pretty far. Hayward is more of a go to scorer than anyone thought would be.

I used to love Burks, now I'm not so sure about him. His defense is pretty bad. He might not fit when he comes back, and might screw up the chemistry we have going. Heck, adding anyone might mess this up. So, we may need to move Burks.

Exum will suffice because his defense is good and fits what we are doing. I don't see the star we were hoping for, but he can serve a purpose, and his offense will improve to be good enough.

Favors, Hayward, and Gobert are the three main cogs, and are good enough to take us pretty far. We don't necessarily need a big time offensive player anymore because of how stout our defense has become.

There are only a few players I'd like to add to the mix that are available, and that's Butler, Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard, Kris Middleton and maybe DannyGreen. But we know they are all highly unlikely besides Danny.

Other than a big name like one of those guys, there really isn't much else to add besides another really tall guy, because Booker might not cut it in certain situations when Gobert and Favors are sitting out. And we need more big man depth.

I like Burke off the bench. He's been nice in that role.

Keep Millsap for a specialty defensive player.

Hopefully Hood can stay healthy. He's a legit shooter.

As far as who we draft, it's probably not going to make much of a difference for a few years anyways. I like Super Mario with that pick.

Exum/Burke
Burks/Hood/rookie/Milsap
Hayward/Ingles/rookie/Chris Johnson
Favors/Booker/Cooley/Jerrett
Gobert/Tomic

Roster looks let to me. I guess if we could land a good FA wing that would bump Ingles/Burks/Hood down on the depth chart.

How can we talk about defense with Hayward at the 3? He's not a three hes a defensive stopper at 2 like Dante is a stopper at 1 not 2. Could you imagine Dante trying to stop Hayward? Not happening.

Dude if we want a defensive identity we need to try another stretch 3. Something like Luol Deng with a shot. Heck Id even take AI with his broken shot because I believe in this team and I believe defense wins championships.

I also believe Quinn could figure out how to use a no shooting player but playmaker like Iggy or Deng even if they have to play with Gobert and Favors. Quinn will make it work and if he doesn't the defense will spare us anyway.

Dont talk defense with Hayward at 3. Its ugly mate.

Uh you mean the elite defense we have been playing in February and March with Hayward at the 3?
