Do we overrate the Jazz?

even that pistons team had billups to make some big shots. this team + superstar = champoinship

I've been thinking a little about how good the team can be. If they have another player as good as Hayward offensively, they can probably be contenders. It needs to be an efficient player though. Favors might be turning into that guy. Burks is still pretty inefficient, as well as hood.

Exum needs to take a huge step.

Rudy could be defensive player of the year this year. This is huge. It makes having that other superstar or all around superstar not as necessary.

I don't disagree but I would say that the odds of Exum becoming kobe/lebron/steph/durant are smaller than the odds that the jazz become that pistons team.
 
Definitely not. Well, I'm not.

I've stated from the beginning of the year that I don't think the Jazz will make the playoffs but if we improve our record from last year this season will be a positive one. If we make the playoffs like some have predicted, then I think the season will be even more of a success...obviously.

The Jazz are the 4th youngest team in the league and with that youth comes growing pains, mental mistakes and lost opportunities. I think the Jazz are on the right path and I like all of our players though I do NOT have a problem admitting that Burke is on the bubble for me.

That said, and I said this last night in the game thread, we really need someone with some chutzpah on this team who says, I'm gonna win this game. And then he does in the closing minutes 8-10 times a year. Like Lebron last night. Every championship team has guys like that. The Pistons had Billups, Rip, and Rasheed to a lesser degree, all of whom had balls and who you'd trust. We have no one.

Pretty much everyone thought we were a fringe 7-8 seed in the playoffs this year at best. After the first handful of games I'd say that is pretty spot on with a chance at even being a 5-6 if a few games fall their way (Detroit and Cleveland are great examples of this not happening).

All and all, the Jazz are a very young team who are still figuring out that they CAN play with the big boy teams. That type of surety and confidence doesn't happen overnight and once they actually grasp the fact that they ARE that good they will be a ton of trouble for the NBA.

What I see is an extremely competitive team who has only really been out of one game this entire season so far. They could be 6-1 with a few bounces in their favor. Overrated? No, not even close.

Hayward started to look like a closer last year, and it's something he focused on in the offseason apparently, but he's really disappointed so far at the end of games thus far. He disappeared in the 4th last night.

Utah has ONE quality win (Memphis). Sorry, "moral" victories don't count, especially when you **** the game away at the end. Jazz have no legit starting PG. They have zero quality backup PF's.And apparently no one behind Gobert,


And no, this isn't just a knee-jerk reaction to the Cleveland loss. It's an observation over all the games. Jazz don't seema to be building off last season. Burke (of all people) is the only player that seems to be much improved. No one else looks that much better. And that concerns me with a young team.

I haven't overrated the Jazz. Said before the season I was not banking on the playoffs, but rather we would contend for 7-8 or just out. In two three years we will be nasty to play. Also we gave LBJ in co all they could handle in cle, and they don't hardly lose at home. Also can't expect the defense to be perfect every game. Lol
