What's new

do we still need Marc Gasol?

The Jazz would be insane if they wouldn't trade anyone but Deron for Marc Gasol. I'm not even sure I'd keep Jefferson if it meant getting Gasol.

Legit 7-foot, true centers with a complete game and no injury problems are almost IMPOSSIBLE to find.

AJ is a star. Gasol is a role player. Yes, he is big, but he is a role player, no more and no less. You don't trade a star for a role player, even if the role player is 2 inches taller.

Gasol is not a role player. He averaged 15, 9 and 2 his second season. Imagine him playing with Deron... He is a 7'1 center who likely will become a star. I would easily trade Millsap, Hayward and picks for him. AJ, that's a tough one, but I would maybe do it.

Why the hell wouldn't we trade everything outside of Deron and AJ for Gasol?

Millsap and AJ aren't enough to get us past the Lakers. In fact, I wonder if AJ and Millsap are even better than a healthy Memo and Boozer.

With Gasol and AJ, we might finally have a frontline to compete with the bigs of this conference.

Deron, Jefferson, and Gasol would be a terror to reckon with, regardless of whoever else is on the roster.

Make it happen, KOC.

Please. Jefferson had a better season than the best Gasol's year when he was 3 years younger than Gasol. 3 years younger. Grass is always greener on the other side, isn't it?

This is a no brainer. The only exception I see to no AJ or D-Will is no AK and Millsap, but either of those two and just about whatever else is asked for.

Sure he has had better seasons offensively, but what about defense? How often can you get a legit 7 footer who can do it on both ends like he can? And he will only get better. He is a star in the making, not a role player.

I wasn't implying that I would trade AJ for Gasol, but it would definitely be something to strongly think about if we had the opportunity to get him. Any other player besides AJ and Deron and it's a no brainer.

I would go as far as AK and Millsap for Gasol if they threw in a second guy to make the salaries work.

Money wise, this might actually make a ton of sense if they get an expiring contract back. The Jazz can't do anything next year under the CBA--even w/out AK. Take off Millsap too, and it might look pretty "up-sided". They'd be paying about $44 next year, which gives plenty of room to add a serious impact player.

Thinking on the fly:
D-Will, AJ, Gasol, CJ, Bell, Watson might be that solid backup
I see championship potential here. Add a solid threat and I'm looking at it.

With all that said, I don't think the situation fits. It's all hypothetical.

Yes I think in this case we would use the majority of our money to resign Gasol to a big contract. Our frontline would be huge, especially if Memo can come back reasonably healthy. That said, I don't think the Grizzlies are dumb enough to make this trade. Gasol is pretty much an untouchable in their eyes.

Yeah no doubt huh.
Not to mention I've seen Millsap produce those numbers off the bench, backing up Boozer last year.
Gasol will be paid way to much money for the Jazz to ever afford him.
Fesenko and Okur will do, because they're willing to take the smaller salaries.

Not to mention, why would you want to trade players like AK and Bell for Gasol??

And leave C.J Miles, Hayward, and Evans to guard the Kobe's, the Durrant's, the Lebron's, and the Wade's??

Sounds like people have gotten their heads a little to far into guarding L.A. Bigs, as opposed to balancing team defense.

Well getting back to reality, there's no way the Jazz acquire Marc Gasol. He's not on the market, and even if he was, the Jazz have no assets the Grizzlies would be interested in that they'd be willing to part with to get him.
