Does Dennis Draft Differently?

What happened to taking the bull by the horns? Sure, being a team player is great and all, but someone's got to make the final decisions, and I was kind of hoping it would be Lindsey.

Did it say he wouldn't make the final decision? He simply said everybody's input would be equal.

Thats why this offseason holds so much intrigue. Lindsey has been with the Jazz for about 10 months and we still don't know what he is going to do. He is a mystery. The dude has got a politicians gift to talk without saying anything. He does those 20 minute radio interviews everyweek but only reveals small peeks into his managment style and decision making process.

Where KOC faces a question and gives an answer, or a 'no comment'--Lindsey says"great question" and talks for 2-3 minutes without really answering the question. Brilliant.

The only things I have picked up that relate to the draft:

1- Found out scouts were not measuring lateral quickness the way he wanted so he called them all in to teach them how he wanted it scouted. 'Athleticism is more than how high a guy can jump.'
2-Wants to remove heirachal barriers and have an open discussion within the organization about prospects.
3-He is okay using the draft to get role players rather than risking a pick, does not want to guess on any player.
I think that is kind of what the Jazz do with their 2nd-round picks.
What excited me the most about Lindsey is that the Spurs actually have an analytics department...and they've had a lot of success finding guys who just contribute. Let's hope Lindsey is able to say "the Emperor has no clothes" when advanced stats clearly illustrate a player is not worth acquiring or re-signing.

I agree.

Well, that's what the Spurs have basically done since they united Duncan, Parker and Ginobli. They haven't needed to find another star, just accumulate solid role-players to support them. Also, that's all you can do when you are consistently drafting in the 20s, unless you get lucky (which is essentially how they got Parker and Ginobli in the first place).

Great leaders know how to listen.

I like the fact that Lindsey doesn't "reach" for a player. Can you imagine if KOC was that way?

Instead of Borchardt, we would have drafted Boozer, had Boozer sit behind Malone for a year or two and learn how to be tough.

Instead of Humphries, we would have drafted Al Jefferson. Could you imagine Al coming off the bench with Boozer and Okur in front of him?

Instead of Morris Almond, the Jazz could have drafted Aaron Affalo. Could you imagine this team:

DWill
Brewer
Affalo
Boozer
a tough Al

Memo off the bench.

That team would have had a realistic chance.

Yeah. A realistic chance at playing no defense at all.

Can you point to specific interview where your number points are? I haven't heard those things before. Interesting.
