What's new

Dok's and Bolarmo's options not picked up:

Not a surprise. Looks like the Jazz want to clear out roster spots and a bit more cap space for next season. Let’s go.

Glad to see they’re being decisive with these types of moves and not holding on to the sunk cost. Cut bait and move on to bigger fish. Hope they both land somewhere. They seem like nice guys - just not what the Jazz are looking for.

I don't really care that much, but still interesting that these guys made the roster over Butler. If Butler would have showed anything this year, I believe he would have been restricted, so the decision could have been delayed until the end of the year. Whereas we already had to make a decision on these guys with not much more information than we had at the end of training camp.

Why do these contracts get set up so that team options have to be decided so early?

So now what do Jazz do with Dok and Bolmaro for rest of season?
Keep em on the roster or trade em. They can still retain them next year if they like but are limited to offering what their options were or diving into cap space to keep em. Neither guy would likely get a minimum deal if they were FA right now... so this is the right move. Doke should have had his option declined last year... Tony Bradley had like 2 options picked up that shouldn't have... so maybe we are finally learning.

They are expiring contracts and have bigger salaries than JB so can be more useful in trade matching. JB hasn't been picked up yet (neither did Stanley which is weird). I don't expect either guy to be on the roster next year and both may be out the league.

Jazz have 3 draft picks next offseason and are going to need open roster spots.
I would bet at some point after the trade deadline we churn some spots at the end of the roster looking for keepers. Right now we wait for a trade as NAW, Bolmaro, Doke could be used to help make a trade work.

Play them if they deserve the minutes. Doesn't mean they can't be resigned next year, just not at the rookie contract payscale the option would have given them.

Neither have done anything to deserve the extra year yet. Unless one of them can crack the rotation and get regular minutes, it seems inevitable that they'll move on and likely find limited suitors.

NAW can be used as filler and there might be someone that still sees a tall combo guard worth developing. But overall, he is maybe less athletic than Juzang, and so "average", it is a wonder he has not been waived already given they are not tanking. With Mike and JC contracts being fairly large to move without eating bad returns for picks, I don't see that many needs to use any tiny fillers, unless they are dumping Gay, for a more useful rotational big, to add depth for a treadmill play in push.
