If you really have a problem with this change in policy, you're simply a fool. The discomfort a homophobe has of homosexuality is a barrier that should be challenged at every turn just like every social barrier that ever stood between a person and opportunity. I didn't hate Don't Ask Don't Tell since it was progress at the time it was implemented, but that doesn't it make it less of a silly embarrassment. Our armed forces and our society will be stronger for this decision having been made. It's inconceivable to me to think otherwise.

I don't think you understand how bigotry or prejudice works or why it's relevant to the rules of this site or society at large. I'll also address Marcus, Clutch, and Hopper since I'm nearly positive he's still lurking.

Taking issue with something someone has said, a stance they've made, or an action committed is reactionary and valid. Taking issue with the benign nature of a person's existence is not. How is this confusing?

Nobody has a problem with McCain because he served in war, but he doesn't get a free pass on every issue for the rest of his life because of that, either. He's done some transparently pandering and cowardly things over the years just as he's done some great things. Katie's argument is not that he's bad because he's straight, or white, or something that he doesn't have control over. Attacking the things he has control over - just as anyone else's - is fair game.

Also, how does having a policy of kicking out 'our' service members equate to helping 'our' war? Also, Packer is a hateful piece of garbage that is out of touch with even the religion he represents. He's the Beantown of the presidency of The Church.

My guess is that ending Don't ask, Don't tell will have little to no effect in how gays serve in the military. The overwhelming majority will choose to keep it to themselves.

The difference now is that when they revealed as gay by accident or malice, they will be able to continue to serve.

This IMO is a totally different situation though. I guess I hope I get proven wrong on this one. But I have known my fair share of soldiers who are very homophobic.

Just from knowing a few soldiers and knowing their opinions. I am okay with getting rid of don't ask, don't tell and I hope I am wrong and there aren't any incidents. I guess we'll see.

This only flies if you interpret McCain's stance as being an act of bigotry. Wrong? Probably. Misguided? Probably. Is McCain a homophobe? I doubt it.
