Doug Robisnon Column in the Deseret News

These writers are so dumb. IF this was the NFL and IF you could just cut players whenever you wanted, they would have an argument. But it isn't. And you can't. So, their argument is irrelevant.

You forgot to mention byu in this post.

It is curious to me how a 'sportswriter,' someone who (among other things) writes about the NBA for a living, could so fundamentally misunderstand how the modern NBA works.

So, teams should never fire coaches? The Jazz would stick with a coach who the FO does not honestly think has what it takes to get the job done? This is some kind of organizational/character flaw?

Put aside any other reason one might have for not wanting to renew Corbin's contract, this is by itself sufficient reason: Prior to the season DL said the top priority was defense and that Corbin would be evaluated on that outcome (among others). Out of 30 teams in the NBA, the Jazz finished dead last (or 29th of 30) in defense. Not 'firing' Corbin would be the evidence of organizational character flaw, as it would indicate that head coaches are not in fact accountable for clearly stated team objectives and that DL cannot be taken at his word.

To Robinson, take off those Sloan/Malone/Stockton rose colored glasses. Those days are gone, and they're not coming back. Get over it, join the real world, and move on.

Edit to add: These kind of nostalgic yearnings for the past have the same character of the romantically naive belief of Jay Gatsby (if you're ever read the book or seen the movie) that one can recreate the past.

The real inaccuracy is his claim that the Jazz fired Ty. He wasn't fired. They didn't extend his contract. Just like when the Jazz let AJ and Millsap's deal expire. They weren't cut they just didn't get another contract.

I agree. I guess Robinson didn't read the poll on the Deseret news poll? 83.7 percent said Ty should have been fired (I know he wasn't fired). So he is preaching to the crickets with his complaints.

My favorite part of the whole BYU article.

Exchanging Karl Malone for Mrs Robinson in the song lyrics.

Epic

Holy Crap. That man is an idiot.

First off, remember what the Deseret News is: Panders to the BYU crowd, who honestly believe they are going to win a national championship in football, have a heisman player, and go to the sweet 16 in basketball every year. OK. Now that you remember that, realize that NONE of those people are grounded in reality. NONE.

Ok, now, let's look at what was said:

I bet his young editor from BYU making $8/hr told him to use the word epic. He is so trendy.

Wow, this is news to me! They fired a coach? Who? It wasn't Sloan, he quit. It wasn't Layden, he moved to another job. It wasn't Corbin, his contract ended. Who did they fire? Was there some other coach out there?

Moron.

Yeah, they are starting over again, after the Stockton/Malone days and after the Deron days. Here is a quick question, how many NBA teams have been as successful as the Jazz when it comes to full blown rebuilds? I can only think of one: Orlando Magic. They have had two complete rebuilds since the Stock/Malone days, and both those ended up in THE NBA FINALS. And both of those involved tanking years.

Moron.

Oh gawd. Give me a break. Like I said, typical zoob. He would rather be fighting for the playoffs (or in BYU football's sphere, playing a ridiculously easy schedule and being ranked 23, going 10-2 with your only losses being against the only good teams you played, but the good news is, in BYU fan's eyes, if we could play them now, we would beat them!) than fighting for championships.

So uniformed. So typical Utah County. So ridiculous.

Let's look at the Hawks record, shall we? The Hawks went 38-44. And he is impressed? The Bobcats went 43-39. Hey, they were .500, right? That's something. And Big Al sent cans of paint to reporters. Look at what Utah is missing out on!

Look at what else we are missing out on: All those Jazz players that left, and are leading their teams to great things? What did they just accomplish? They were both BLOWN OUT by the Pacers and Heat.

Impressive.

Moron.

Like I said, look at the source. The readers of the Des News want to hear how BYU will compete for a title, how they won the good ol' spring championship, their boys are overcoming sin and crying with inmantes, and how the Jazz will dominate.

They have no perspective, no reality, and this guy is just feeding them what they want to hear.

These are the people that thought we would contend for the playoffs this year, because, Favors is awesome and Hayward is the next Larry Bird

*snicker*

At least they will be able to drown their sorrows in BYU's pathetic football schedule, they will get their 11 wins (with their only loss being against the only BCS team with a winning record), and feel good about themselves once again.

last straw.

The point is, we didn't get anything for him. We just let him walk for nothing!
