That doesn't necessarily mean that all/any of their other products are contaminated though. I'm still reading the article, but it concerns the cover up of the health risks of an industrial additive called c8, which I don't think they still use.

He talks a lot about how the consumer food market is owned by certain companies who don't care how nutrient deficient a crop is, or how their chemicals are affecting the consumers. Interesting stuff.

I love this. Growing food yourself is a real passion of mine. I really wish more people would do it. It's a very worthwhile thing to occupy your time with. Saves money as well as good for your physical and mental health.

You'll need to keep reading-- they've replaced them with chemicals known as C5, C6, C7, and C9. They aren't as persistent as C8, but more are being used because they aren't as ideal as C8. While they say they haven't found any significant incidences of public health risks from this new crop of chemicals-- this is DuPont we're talking about. The same was said for C8.

I think public health is my biggest passion. Health is 100% my passion, but I feel like most lives can be improved in a more public sphere. That's what I feel like I'm here to do. Hopefully I push myself to be in a position where I can harness this passion, someday.

I have been involved in helping foster advocacy for indigenous tribes within my province that have elevated rates of diseases like autoimmune disorders and cancers from water-table contamination via the oil sands. Indigenous tribes by-and-large are humans rights violators. I have no clue of the situation in Canada but I sincerely hope that is not what you are fostering.
 
This is another thread about anti-capitalists hating the mechanisms that enrich everyone's lives. It's sad how people have become so one sided on this kind of stuff. Why would you cut off your nose over basic human tendencies that should be fostered? Sure, do something about problems when they arrive, but why go south with this whiny tone? When I was in college they taught us how to use the system with reason to effect change. It seems like every person with a cause has forgotten this concept.

If the point is that business should be ethical then that's retarded. If the point is that business enriching the lives of planet earth should be ethical then that's even more retarded. I personally hate Monsanto for several reasons but let's not act like this is more than business is bad because they are in the business of making profit. That's simply retarded and that's all I've gotten from this thread thus far.

Not a fan of how this was delivered, but I agree to some extent. A lot of this falls on the government as well. Corporation's responsibility is to make money-- government's is to serve its people. I disagree with the contention that businesses have no responsibility to be ethical.

Still, I like to think that all humans have some sort of moral ethics instilled within them. How any human could have seen their operations causing women to have birth defects, and just ignore this is simply beyond me. Vile. Despicable.

Dupont bought off officials, smeared scientists, falsified documents, and engaged in a plethora of unethical behavior in order not to be held liable for their actions. Not every criticism of a business is communist blasphemy. People have every right to voice their anger.

I'm with you, Dalamon. There are so many things we are discovering about different chemicals, food additives, etc. And companies like Dow, Monsanto and the food manufacturers will trot out lobbyists and attorneys to suppress evidence of any adverse health effects. Don't want profits to drop and stock prices to fall.

We no longer use any non-stick coated pans. Stainless steel is the way to go. We're not health nuts, but there are certain things we only buy organic and other things we avoid (like nitrites in meat).

Organic foods are one of the biggest scams going around. Maybe 5% of what's labeled as organic actually is.
