What? When you get amnestied I'm pretty sure you are free to sign with whoever wants you.

Hard.I bet he would go to a contender. I guess Utah could be possible because he is a Denver native and Utah is somewhat close (plus Denver has too many PG's for him to go there). Still doubt it though. Lakers and Heat would both probably be after him.

For 48 hours teams under cap can bid for the player amnestied. The highest bid takes the player with their new salary off-setting the previous team's remaining buyout amount. I doubt Billups gets past waivers.
Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like you've been studying the new CBA.For 48 hours teams under cap can bid for the player amnestied. The highest bid takes the player with their new salary off-setting the previous team's remaining buyout amount. I doubt Billups gets past waivers.
We somehow turned from a team with an All Star PG with thin front court..
.. to a glut of bigs with pretty thin PG talent ... in just 1 year.
Unless KOC knows something we don't - not getting back Earl would be a major disappointment of this off-season.

Billups' agent, Andy Miller on Billups: "He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers...unless it's a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware."
So while theoretically Chauncey can't decide, it sounds like he's going to do his best (or worst) to go to ensure that he goes to a team he prefers.

I don't see why you should get any of your money but I haven't read the contracts. This is another issue that should have been dealt with and/or existing rules enforced. So have a team claim him, then see what the league does if he refuses to report. Probably qualifies as a breach of contract and he would only receive the reduced amount from Team A.
But as far as Chauncey's bitching goes, this is a rare occasion where I side with the player. He's got to be pretty ****ing sick of being yanked around as a punishment for being a complete professional his entire career.
