Eating Crow.

Somebody was going to eat crow on this, either the fans or KOC. After watching the Hayward in the summer league it was clear I would be eating.

Regrettably, it did not have to be a front office versus the fans scenario. It only would've taken a few words by KOC or Rigby before announcing the pick to temper expectations and silence the majority of the crowd. I admit I booed --not because it was hayward, I booed because I thought it meant we were keeping boozer.

Had KOC said, " We've worked out alot of players preparing for many different scenarios and found a few players that we think fit into the Jazz system and that you fans will like. Every season there are players moving and this is just the first part of our summer plans. We really like the guy we're going to take he's a winner and plays jazz basketball. "

If he says something like that the fans don't boo the first round pick, they don't boo KOC and all the freaking out on the message boards never happens. Jazz need PR help not basketball help.

Heh, Mellow, do you really think the average JazzHater, oops, sorry, I meant "JazzFan," would give any credence whatsoever to vague statements by made by KOC, and then immediately drop their "KOC is an incompetent fool and the sky is falling" mindset? Mebbe you woulda, but, like, really, who else?

With respect to Honzward, in particular, the popular sentiment on this board seemed to be that he just flat-out sucks, and probably wouldn't even be worthy of a #25 pick, let alone 9th, but that KOC was incapable of seein that.

IF the Jazz had gone this route, the haters here would have been worse, not better. They would have said the usual "Jazz have no plan". They would have said KOC had no clue and was making **** up. They would have crucified him over and over.
IF they do get Al and Tomjic turns out to be what he seems to turning in to over in Europe, we are going to be looking very, very good soon.

Hopper--you are right, the folks that hate KOC wouldn't change camps because of one statement on draft night. He needed to be setting the stage after workouts, on draft night, on sports beat, on the radio, then talk it up again durring the summer league, at today's press conference......

On draft night Jerry was saying that fans that booed just weren't familiar with what the jazz were trying to do. The jazz can change that. Remaining silent or taking a defensive postion only empowers the haterz. But proactively setting the stage would win support over time.

Fan support of the teams overall plan does not translate to wins. Plus, showing their hand gives teams insight the FO doesn't want the league to have. It could effect the draft, trades, and free agency. You want answers, go to church. Otherwise shut the **** up.

Yeah, what Baby done said, eh? Jazz can't publicly elaborate on their thinkin and plans without hurtin the team. Fanz just gunna hafta bite it if they feel they're entitled to be "on the inside." Of course many of them act like they already are "on the inside" and are intimately acquainted with every detail of the all the Jazz's plans and activities, but, still....
