What's new

Election day!!!! Go vote!!!

I'm most pissed about the over the top gerrymandering of our US congressional districts. The boundaries were drawn like four years ago and I'm still butt hurt about it.

I'm glad that there will be an African American woman representing Utah.

The parties where messing with the districts long before 4 years ago.

Ben Carson in for '16 apparently:

Yes, the 2016 race for the White House has already gotten started -- and it looks like Dr. Ben Carson is first in the ring.

Carson, a famous pediatric neurosurgeon and conservative political star, will air a nearly 40 minute-long ad introducing himself to the American people this weekend in his opening bid for the Republican nomination, an aide to Carson confirms to ABC News.

He may have just won the tea party vote. They love him.

True enough, the Tea Party loves him. The problem is Tea Party support has been more of a hindrance than a help for anyone with presidential aspirations. In 2012, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Sarah Palin were all TP favorites. Now it looks to be Ted Cruz, Ben Carson and Scott Walker. I'm not sure anyone of them could ever be elected president.

In presidential primaries the republicans that trend to the right win a good %. Carson has tea party support, intelligent, black, and very conservative. That is a tough combo to beat right now in a race to the right primary.

Im not arguing president winner. I am talking primary winner.

Specifically I was speaking of Utah's districts. 14 years ago was really the first time that you could say that Utah's districts were gerrymandered. With the addition of 4th seat it seemed that it would be hard to justify splitting Salt lake county in such a ridiculous way again. There really is no excuse for this.(below)

....whatever it takes to get that wild and liberal bloc of 180,000 people to get Republican representation.

... Oh, and let's make sure that a certain real estate bloc maneuvers things so that control of downtown is guaranteed. Buy streets. Build malls that are showcases for Temple Square. Etc.

You do realize that the salt lake county mayor and county sheriff are both democrats. County wide Salt lake county is Dem majority.

I do. Maybe they should try to get more of San Pete and some of Sevier in there.

That districting pulls the politics to the right in noticeable ways, even if democrats are elected. Based on demographics alone, Salt Lake County should be its own district.

That didn't happen in 2012 and I don't think it will happen in 2016. I would rate Bush, Christie, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan all with much better chances to win the nomination than any Tea Party favorite. I don't think the primaries are only about a race to the right, it's also about finding a candidate that can actually win in 2016.
