Embassy attacked in Libya

And conducts military missions in sovereign nations like Pakistan while increasing military presence in Afganistan. And waging a cyber war against Iran.

And yet at the same time he's an apologist to the Muslim people - go figure.

I'm curious what specific evidence you can cite demonstrating that Obama is an apologist to the Muslim people? Are are you just doing an unthinking rendition of right wing talking points?

Try to answer without scurrying off to the right wing blogosphere to get your 'evidence.'

Probably just some extension to the representation of the "West" or because of the NATO affiliation. I think the grievances or reasons for protest sort of compound to whatever your average trouble makers want them to be over time. It might not mean anything other than they got bored and decided to trash whatever Western embassy was closest at the time.

So is this a genuine grassroots uprising, or are we looking at at the usual suspects of militant Islamacists seizing an opportunity to make a show? I'm guessing it's the latter, but I could well be wrong.

I believe Candrew was being sarcastic and poking fun at the right's notion of Obama being a Muslim apologist.

I agree that it's because of the NATO affiliation.
The U.S. and other western countries have be using NATO and the UN as excuses to keep there militarism going in these countries.
The CIA have taught about blowback for years, and are just getting some tastes of their own medicine.
I also guarantee it wasn't because they were bored, it's because they want us and everyone else out of their country.
What would we do if China had troops and drones over here?

The fact that they are doing this at the 9/11 anniversary needs to be noted.

There have been rumblings that the attack on the Libyan Embassy that killed the US ambassador was planned in advance. They just took the cover offered by that idiots film.

I'm with you in thinking this is usual suspects seizing a fabulous opportunity to make a show.

I thought about that.

Scenario: Chinese embassy is attacked here in the US. Some Chinese diplomats are killed. China sends in 50 special forces to investigate, has drones flying in our skies and two destroyers off our coast.

As an American I say hell no! Why should the Libyan people feel any different?

Right we have at least two separate incidents here that the public is confusing, but both are occurring at 9/11 ann.

Rep'd.

It is important for us to avoid broad generalizations. I pray that these actions do not escalate into a broader conflict while also praying for justice. Hopefully, the Libyan government helps capture the individuals involved in the attack.

Agreed. Political pundits, bloggers, commentators on discussion boards don't have to deal with the tricky, messy, high stakes aspects of politics and diplomacy; they can just sit at their computer key boards and throw rhetorical bombs to whip up the unthinking masses without anything really at stake for them (aside from the emotional goodies they get from blowing dog whistles for fools). For those whose actions actually have important implications for nations, societies, economies, and real life people, let's hope that they act with a bit more circumspection and reason.

What exactly are you trying to say? I honestly am not sure.

I'm agreeing that there were a) the protests and b) the embassy murders which are being viewed as two separate incidents. Much of the public are combining both and suggesting the people in the embassy died because of the film maker. Sorry if it's not clear.

Oh ok. I agree. Just because you have "the right" to do something does not mean that you necessarily should. Film maker is an idiot.

I just wonder how this will affect other ME issues. Such as Syria, Iran/Israel and Israel/Palestine.

They shoudn't feel any different, and that's the point.

Maybe voters will actually take blowback into account when they elect our next president.
Oh wait.... both major candidates have the exact same foreign policy.

Film maker is an idiot.

The film reminds me of a 'false flag' type of instrument, designed to excite the middle east.
If you pay attention to what members of the Counsil on Foreign Relations have been saying, they've been quoted as saying that we needed a new middle east conflict.
I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

Official statement regarding the embassy attacks:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

In other words, the attackers were justified in attacking US embassies because some American miscreant insulted their religion.

Sounds like the nonsense Obama spouted on his Apology Tour.
