Perhaps you've explained this before and I just missed it, but what don't you like about Kanter?

Do you think he's not a good player or do you just think that the Jazz don't have a place for him at the moment?

I don't think he fits the team well. His best case scenario is a better passing Al Jefferson. Best case. I'd rather this team go the defensive center route instead.

Makes sense. I agree that he may not fit our team right now (if we draft him we will trade somebody).....but I still do like him as a player. I was just wondering what your thoughts were. Thanks for sharing.

Still think you have to take Kanter over Knight.
His measurements and numbers are all better than expected.
He has the height and fitness to compete at center.
He has huge hands which does matter.
He can match up against just about any NBA center.
What more do you want? Jazz may not get another chance to get a guy like him.
Guys like him are only found in the top three picks of drafts.
Knight may be great, but you might still find a sleeper later in drafts.
Of course this is looking like a pointless debate.
Cavs may take Williams and Wolves take Kanter.
So it will come down to Irving or Knight.
In which case its a possible tossup.

Yes I absolutely agree - he's one of those talent you can't pass up on.

And shoots a fundamental shot. And reacts to the defense on the fly/makes quick decisions instead of relying on plodding through and stopping a set. Give me an Al Jefferson that does all of those things and I'll eat a dog turd. I can project Kanter there. Who knows where he ends up, but it's not a stretch for me to imagine that.

?

Al doesn't make quick decisions. Anywhere on the court. The only quick decision he makes is that he's going to take a shot when he catches in the post, even if he doesn't actually implement that decision quickly. The guy only started doing ANYTHING on the pick-and-roll more than halfway through the season, otherwise, he'd pull-up with an open-lane and turn a quick 2 into some sort of excruciating siege tactic.

FWIW same wingspan as Paul Millsap and same standing reach as Al Jefferson.

Now that the measurements are out, I think that Kanter is definitely an upgrade on Al Jefferson. He's got essentially the same height and standing reach. However, he is a much better shooter of the basketball with range. He also has a developing inside game.

What he has over Jefferson is his speed and quickness. Al is really really bad on team defense - slow to rotate in pick & roll situation. Can you believe we lead the league in shot blocking last season? What we need is a versatile defensive player, not a painfully slow, heavy feet shot blocker.

Yeah, if you draft Kanter you can trade Jefferson. Does Indiana want him? I'd want George and 2012 draft picks + whatever else to make the contracts work.
