Epic defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure which one you are talking about because it happened a lot last night.
no time/skills to make a gif now.
but i have the starting position and the end position.
just watch jefferson in perfect position for a charge.
but look at the end picture. jeffersons position.
that is pure epic jefferson defines
jefferson defense 1.jpgjefferson defense 2.jpg

also note jefferson not boxing out.
millsap is boxing out.
carol is not boxing out but considering where he started on defense on that play you cant blame him.
so if jefferson wasnt taking the charge, boxing out. or contesting the shot.

WHAT THE **** WAS HE DOING????????????????????????????????????????

Actually I don't blame Al for this play, he got screened on the play, but if you watch Millsap on that play, he watches the entire play unfold and watches Harden go right by him, pathetic!

lol.

ohhh dear....

Have you ever played (organized) basketball in your life?

Three things...

#1 Big Al didn't get screened, he essentially screened himself. Had he put in just minimal effort to actually defend the P&R, he would have prevented that dunk. But he commits a huge mistake which they should teach you in Jr. Jazz, don't spin and turn your back to the defender (and run into your teammate). If you're going to show hard, then you need to impede the ballhandler's path. Instead he barely popped out, spun around (causing even more delay in recovering), and turned his back. Why would you EVER turn your back to the ballhandler?

#2 You're asking Millsap who is in the corner defending a 3 point shooter to come out of the corner to cut off a left handed dribbler who is driving from the top of the key? Huh? That's literally like asking a middle linebacker to forget about the back in the backfield and to cover a split end lined up against the sideline. Sorry pal, it doesn't work. The angles and distance doesn't work.
If Big Al muffs (as he did) then our last line of defense would have been Hayward to either challenge that shot or attempt to take a charge, NOT Millsap. Either way though, as long as Big Al is epic fail, we're going to struggle as that is a complete broken play at that point. 99.9 percent when you f up the P&R defense as bad as Big Al did, it's going to lead to points (either from the FT line or shot).

#3 Foye overplayed it too. The whole point of Big Al jumping out is to impede the ballhandler and allow his man to catch up. Essentially, Big Al jumped out (barely impeded him) and Foye overpursued way too quickly thus allowing Harden to reverse and drive to the left with no defender in sight. Foye needs to recover slower to ensure that Harden won't reverse back and Big Al needs to impede Harden from going to his right until Foye recovers.

That's basketball.
