Do NOT extend Favors. 100% wait and see. There aren't going to be teams lining up to throw money at Favors this offseason, because he is a restricted FA. Unless he is a max player...but then pay him the max.

If he bombs, no one will want him, let alone overpay for him.

If he turns into a solid player, with the new salary cap, no one will overpay for a solid player.

If he blows up, pay the pimp. He deserves.

Like with AK, you gain nothing by extending him now.

I think Hayward is different. I think his cost only goes up. You know what he is, so pay the dude. Besides, Hayward will only be more expensive next summer.

I can see your point. However, the Jazz need to at least make an offer. If they're concerned, start low, negotiate a bit with his agent and then gracefully agree to wait until after the season to set his value. Kind of like Millsap. Granted, the Jazz were restricted on what they could offer him. But they made the gesture anyway, knowing he would likely turn it down. And had he bit, the Jazz would have gotten a fantastic deal.

I think doing what the did with Kirilenko and giving him a max contract could be a mistake. No matter what AK47 did, it was never good enough because of that contract. I am sure Favors (and his agent) would want max money, but I am not sure that he has the personality to handle the pressure and stardom that comes with it. Don't want him to start crying in the locker room after a bad performance.

This.

Absolutely extend, but not at the max money.

At this time, the Jazz have no MAX players so they should not max out a player based upon potential. I would attempt to negotiate a contract with Favors and see where he is at before just throwing money at him because we think other teams will MAX him out (much like AK and Ostertag).

I would start at the 10 million range and I wouldn't go over 12 million. I think that is a fair amount and a substantial contract. The problem the Jazz have is if they play Favors the MAX without proving he is a MAX player then they will have problems with other players down the line wanting more than they have earned. The Jazz have to be smart and not over pay one player because they could end up screwing the rebuild process with bad financial decisions.

The Jazz will have leverage regarding Favors. If he demands a MAX deal you trade him for more assets because the Jazz could draft his replacement with the 2014 pick and they have both Kanter and Gobert. You don't pay a guy simply because he works hard, he has to produce and since Favors has taken four years to get to this level(a level that has question marks?) he can't say I've been an all-star for 2 years ..

My hope is he has a good year not great so he is willing to -re-sign for less allowing the Jazz to retain his serves and leave room for other Jazz players to stay with the team. As far as Hayward, He is worth about 8 or 9 million simply because he has been inconsistent and good wings don't get paid as much as good big men.

I see little chance the Jazz MAX Favors. Partly because he's not currently a max player and also because I don't think he becomes a max player.

I hope the Jazz don't resign Favors, he goes out and averages 18 and 12 with 54% shooting and on 12 shots a night with 3 blocks and gets a max deal next summer. I would LOVE that.

What was the point of making an intentionally dumb post?

Seriously, though, it was because everyone keeps going on and on about what Favors should make. It's simple. Right now, players that produce similarly to him who got deals got deals in the 10 million dollar range. If he doesn't like that, great. Let him play this year out. If he proves he is better than that, he will get paid better than that. BUT, if his production dips or plateau's, then he will get paid less.

I have no problem paying market value for players. I have a huge problem with overpaying hoping that someone will pan out.
