ESPN Future Power Rankings, Jazz at #4

If we're talking LA and future financial stability, this article points out how bad of a situation LA is in even though it won't matter cause they have the money.

In a nutshell:

So I don't see why LA is on there if we're talking in 3 years.

Few things. Jazz got a reported $10mm/yr in tv revenue back in '09 or '10 when LA was getting in excess of a hundo and multiples higher in ticket sales. I thought I just read a 10yr, $3bln deal was signed. Jerry Buss ain't blowing all that money playing against the best poker players in the world because the new CBA hurts his *** book.

Next, as far as I can tell, the new CBA caps revenue sharing somewhere between $15-20mm per team meeting criteria. Anything over that has to go somewhere, and could possibly head right back to Ms. Buss' accountant.

Trey, how much will Bryant demand going after ring number 7? Legacy and bragging rights tells me he's going to deal for a whole lot less than his $30mm to put rings on a couple more fingers. Body pain wouldn't be worth the money to him but pushing up against Michael Jordan in the all time greats category would.

All variables included, I doubt either LA pays the astronomical amounts we've all been calculating as a possibility, or that they'll care. Championships + LA = money long term. Their model is built on it.

Oh, Gawd. Hollinger blows the Jazz every year with his dumbass metrics and we've been lucky to make it past the first round of the playoffs. Until I see Favors take the leap we all think he can and Hayward and/or Burks become the guy we hope they can, I'm going to stay off the drugs.

Yeah, but oh ye of little Jefferson & Jazz organization faith.

I still hate 4 though.

In other words, you think this article is trying to use hope to poison our souls?

Pretty typical, right? Even at their best/peak, the Jazz will slightly lower to other powerhouse teams in the league. It happened with Stockton/Malone, Williams/Boozer, and probably to this future team.

Possibly. But I think we'll be bigger and more balanced than either of those teams.

There's a reason that it's a really big deal when David defeats Goliath. I'm excited that they are rating the Jazz as high as they are. I'll bet that prior to the DWill trade they were about ten spots lower.
