I've been a lifelong Ute fan, except for the few years Boylen was stomping the sidelines. The only thing impressive about him is his ability to keep get hired. I really don't think even the most clueless GM would make this hire. And DL isn't clueless.

Yeah with the history at the U would be weird and I always thought his lack of recruiting meaning lack of talent made it hard to judge his coaching but I am also one that isn't sure if he's HC material (would make for fun interviews especially for Monson) however he is supposed to be a top big man coach so I could see him as maybe the top assistant coach but the GM doesn't usually pick that the HC gets to pick most if not all of his staff (with suggestions and recommendations of course).

There is no ****ing way on ****ing earth that the Jazz could hire Boylen. Absolutely no ****ing way.

Cut and dry: If you make a program a joke and you're playing in the Mountain West, you are not one of the 30 best coaches in the world, let alone one of the three best coaches.

Spurs hired him. That means something.

Sloan hired Corbin as an assistant too. Look, if Boylen is all that, some other market will snatch him up. Why would he go to the one market that is already poisoned against him? And if we were his only option, why is he even under consideration anyway?

Messina might be a good option, as well as Longabardi. I still believe Utah is an ideal situation for a coach with all the creds, minus time in the glaring spotlight of a major market. With no expectations, it could be worth it to try someone like those two.

The only Boylen has going for him is the ability to get dirty pictures of his bosses.

this video of Boylen after a Ute game made me laugh.

He reminds me of Stan Van Gundy. The master of Panic!!

He was a jerk

Shows a lot. Inability to handle stress, and when under stress sometimes "true colors" come out, which in this case was pretty clearly an arrogant ahole. Some organizations might look the other way from bill parcels type behavior, but how much the Jazz stress character and class, no way this guy makes the cut..

There is no ****ing way on ****ing earth that the Jazz could hire John Lucas III. Absolutely no ****ing way.

Basically the same situation as John Lucas. DL is hiring people he knows and trust. That is the way the world works. You get jobs through connections.

This is also a career defining moment for Lindsey, though. Who he hires could make/break him. Hire the wrong coach and in 3 years, if the Jazz are stuck in the 35-40 win bracket, both Lindsey AND the coach will be out the door. I think Dennis is smart enough to understand that. Lucas is not even comparable. JLIII was brought in because Burke needed a mentor, but one who posed absolutely ZERO threat to take his job, not even if/when Burke struggled as a rookie. Not sure DL anticipated JL shooting quite so poorly, but even Ty wasn't going to play JL over Trey. And that says a LOT!

Does it really matter? Listen, this guy could end up being a terrific NBA head coach, but at this point I don't want the Jazz to hire anyone who has had such a horrific failure on his resume.

A lot of coaches have been fired and eventually landed in a spot where they were able to have some success. Doc Rivers was fired by Orlando, Jerry Sloan fired by the Bulls, even John Calipari failed as an NBA coach. I'm sure the list goes on and on. If Boylen was fired by a college outside of this state we probably wouldn't think much of it.
