What's new

Everyone tweet @UtahJazz saying #TradeJefferson please

Marvin begging for the ball and also kind of not begging for it at the same time.

What disappoints me most is the terrible roll off that screen. He wasn't even ready for the ball. He didn't move to the basket at all. He had no intention of ever getting that ball. Isn't he suppose to be our closer?

Al hardly ever runs the pick and roll. He's a pure post player.

I'll agree with Locke that Jefferson is probably more capable of closing out games right now than Favors/Kanter, BUT for the rest of the game we are starting to see these guys lead the Jazz to success on the scoreboard only to be squandered away by the lackadaisical starting group. Al does usually play well down the stretch which is all fine and dandy, but when every damn game we come out and score about 1 point per minute something has to give!

This is basically how I feel every night:

Lmao

The starters did work their +/- back to 0 by the end of the game, but they needed Burks and overtime to do it, plus some timely shooting by Foye and Millsap.

Separately, I don't blame Al so much for shooting a lot. If you were making about $20,000 per bucket, you'd shoot a lot too. ;)

If you want to go with your "closer" use his strong side which is iso. But as vslice said in a high pick&roll Milsap or Favors is a better option. Big Al's pick was very weak on that play and he lost his mid range (where he feels more comfortable shooting) spot to Evans.

Tweet locke back that Al was 1-5 from the field the rest of the way after he came in as well. The reason we came back and played well was Foye, Burks, and Sap. We won the game despite Al tonight.

al jefferson took 17 shots scored 15 points
in other words he attempted 23.6% of jazz fg attempts but scored only 15.3% of jazz points thats efficient basketball right there

A very valid point. Corbin called a high screen-roll (which was a smart move imo) between Foye and Jefferson (but why Al and not Millsap?). Sacramento switched it and Foye saw he could take Hayes off-the-dribble and he got a step on him. The problem is Al decided to space out behind the 3pt-line (again if it's Millsap shooting an open three you feel alot better) so the Kings cut-off Foye's penetration and Al was there for the "Memo shot."

Running high screen-roll with someone who can pop (Millsap) or roll hard (i.e. Favors dunking over Biedrins last year) is a smart decision - but by involving Al in the play it was destined to fail because that's not his strength. I blame Ty - not Al for that shot (although you could argue big-picture it represents many of Al's limitations if he's not scoring the ball efficiently in the post).

also a very valid point for some reason big al can't play pick and roll/pop offense.
he could not do it with dwill here, he could not do it now. so why go to him.

time and time again we have seen that pick and roll with big al is not succesfull

Not an Al lover but not a hater either. Blaming him for that last shot is ridiculous, as is pulling out efficiency stats on a below par shooting night. Al isn't getting traded but he likely won't be back. I am glad to have him this year as I prefer seeing my team win and Al has been key to plenty of W's. I would love to see Favors getting more minutes but that should be at the expense of Sap who is a 6th or 7th man in this league. Kanter is simply not ready.

The only reason they are better options is they are a ton more athletic then Al, but let's face it none of those dudes even holds a screen long enough to where the ball handler can get separation from there defender. There is not one damned reason for this team to run pick&roll, because it doesn't accomplish one damn thing! The bigs release way too early. You'd think this would be easy to fix, but either the bigs are dumb as rocks or Ty is the worst coach in the NBA.

So if AL leaves is Kanter going to automatically be ready after getting less than 15 minutes for two seasons. Why even play AL if you know he is going to be gone?

I think Kanter would put up decent numbers if he played AL minutes. Watch Kanter now, he is looking over his shoulder to see if he is going to get yanked for a mistake or taken out because AL needs his minutes.

Al's not a pick and pop player. It should have been a Foye-Milsap pick and roll with a 3rd option (Marvin) that Foye could go to for a shot.
The last shot was more of Corbin's fault than it was Al's.

I don't get why Savior Burks didn't get the call with the way he was killing Jimmer off the dribble in the first half.

Jimmer was not in the game on that last possesion, but ya anything would have been better than a big al 3
