Excited for Hayward

Hayward seems like a solid player who i believe will become one of the more efficient players in the league. Watching him play the celtics he was 4 for 5 from the field in the first half. against a tough defensive team like the celtics to watch someone not only make smart shots but as well show the skill to make some tougher shots really makes me encouraged about him. His defense as well impresses me. He's thrown players like Kobe off their game not to mention his double block against the celtics the other night. He's a future all star imo. Plus i'd love to have him on any team in a playoff run. Watching him play for butler, and almost winning a championship makes me think highly of him in pressure situations like the playoffs.

I think he is clearly a good GM. Look how fast he has rebuilt the Jazz various times. He can clearly keep us competitive year in and year out. The question that remains (and so far has been a resounding no) is can he take the Jazz from contender to champion.

I agree, but it does come back to some of the topics that circulate through this board over and over. You have to work within the framework that you are given. Utah is never going to be a preferred destination for top tier free agents. I don't care how good we are or which superstars we pick up through the draft. Also, Utah is likely never going to have the type of deep pockets that other large market teams enjoy. That could possibly change, but it's very unlikely. That's two very large obstacles to building a championship caliber team. Even so, it's not impossible. We need only look as far as San Antonio and OKC for examples. I think that this is what leads to all the discussion about tanking seasons. Those two examples involved getting some very unique players in the draft. As appealing as that may sound, I believe it's unethical and it's not a sure thing by any measure. I still hold out hope that one day we'll be rewarded with a championship done the "Utah" way. We already came close several years back and were stopped only by Michael Jordan, so there's no reason to believe this group of players and management can't lead us there.

Is it unacceptable to go back and those that are saying that Hayward was the demise of the Jazz, and neg rep them?

Just need a second opinion.

I think it is wrong to neg rep them for having a wrong initial opinion of the guy. Are they still talking down about him? If so then maybe.

I just am not a fan of neg repping for a difference of opinion. Differences of opinion are ok. They are not bad things to have.

My favorite thing about Hayward is his inner fire. If he sucks offensively, he makes some great plays for his teammates or goes total beast mode in defense. Remember when he owned Kobe last year and people were calling him the white mamba haha

Hayward is by no means the archetype for a star in this league. I don't blame anyone for being shocked by his selection in the draft. I fell into that trap too, but even then I knew that management must had seen something in his workouts. He has obviously shown that he belongs and the next step is to prove he can be a star through consistency. If people still think he hasn't proved anything, I would neg rep if you're so inclined. But I wouldn't fault anyone for their initial impressions of the guy.

Good input. Thanks.

I didn't want Hayward or George (primarily level of competition). I wanted Xavier.

Henry and George were the players I had highest after Monroe was taken. I was also intrigued by Whiteside and hoped Utah could trade up to get him late first/early second.

I will congratulate myself on absoluting hating Aldrich and Babbitt. But, like most others not named honz (or KOC), I was dead wrong on Hayward.
