The answer to small-ball actually isn't defense in the context of Rudy. It is that he HAS to impose his will on the game when he is so much bigger. He has to draw triple teams on every roll and has to be able to punish when they switch a guard on him in single coverage with aplomb.

Some of this stuff is outside of Gobert's wheelhouse, but I cannot be convinced that he can't bully a guard and just spin and dunk. We don't need immense skill, we simply need him to play his size. Gobert plays a cerebral and conservative game, but at a certain point, his mentality needs to shift into the alpha he thinks he is and just yak on fools smaller than him.

He needs to catch the ball and hang on to it and impose his force and energy on the smaller players. Rudy is way too soft and until he strengthens his hands and can hang on to the ball, he will be a liability when teams pressure him on defense. He needs to have a kick-me-some-*** attitude
 
Why didn't the Jazz insert Favs with Rudy when they went small and play double low post on offence? Then if noting else they are being forced to adjust. You are playing two two man games and one of the other should have at worst a three foot shot.

Playing the averages in an elimination game is ****ing stupid. Is he familiar with the law of large numbers? It's not that weird to flip 5 tails in a row, but in order for regression to happen, you need a larger and larger sample. The sample size where the averages matter is gone in an elimination game. It's not a question of a sample, it is the population. It is the whole thing.

Not to mention a player's shooting %'s under normal circumstances are going to differ drastically from if they're just left to take warm-up shots all game long.

A 41% 3 pt shooter in-game is going to shoot a much higher percentage in warmups or in an empty gym practicing when nobody's guarding him, when he has all day to fire, when he's already in rhythm.

I think because we are over the apron. There are limits on sign and trades when you are in the tax. We might be able to do something if we clear some salary but good luck.

You attacking Royce of all people at this point exposes your hate for the dude. Royce was the only dude playing with any oomph besides Donovan, the only dude consistently helping Rudy on D and on the boards, and the only dude really digging out possessions out of pure effort for the team.

The Jazz didn’t lose because they couldn’t score, it’s because they were sloppy and couldn’t get stops. Those problems would’ve been much worse without Royce and he was great in the playoffs.
