Exum extension

Here are the extension predictions from Keith Smith, a writer for RealGM.

5. Dante Exum – Utah Jazz: Exum is another member of the class who has missed significant time with injury. He tore his ACL and missed the entire 2015-16 season. This year he’s come back and played mostly backup minutes behind George Hill. An extension for Exum is likely tied to Hill’s free agency this summer. If Hill stays in Utah, are the Jazz going to commit to Exum on a big contract?

Extension Prediction: No Extension if Hill re-signs with Utah. Four years/$64 million if Hill leaves. It all depends on Hill. Utah isn’t going to commit big to a backup point guard when they can get one elsewhere for much cheaper. If Hill leaves, the Jazz will likely keep Exum around and install him as the starter moving forward, as they have other pressing free agency concerns this summer as well.

23. Rodney Hood – Utah Jazz: Hood has become one of the steals of the 2014 Draft. He’s a solid scorer who can score inside and outside and make plays off the dribble. He’s had some injury issues this year, which has held back his development as a playmaker, after he showed signs of improvement in that area last season

Extension Prediction: Four years/$80 million. Unlike Exum, whose future is tied to Hill to some extent, Hood is a guy the Jazz want to retain at almost any cost. After extending Rudy Gobert, Utah will attempt to do the same with Hood, especially as insurance if Gordon Hayward leaves this summer.

No way Jazz are letting Exum walk if they re-sign Hill. He might not get an extension but he will be retained as a RFA. This guy is way off on his prediction for Exum. I think if Jazz could get Exum to sign for 4 years 64 million they do it in a heartbeat. Exum would turn that down and wait to be a RFA, unless he really likes the team and stability. Maybe he is more like Favors I dont know. Either way retaining Hill or not has little to do with Exum and keeping him. Although ill wait to see what happens in the playoffs but I am leaning towards letting hill walk if he wants much more than 2 year $40 million and even that might be too much if he doesnt really help us in the playoffs and/or Exum continues to improve at the rate he is.

His Hood prediction seems pretty good. I think that would be a good deal for both sides. I could see Hood waiting for RFA because max deals are being dished out left and right and he might want to gamble on himself.

If we extended both Exum and Hood for those prices I would be pretty happy.

Pretty sure 20 million a year for Hood would be the max, or very close to the max, for his experience level.

Oh well then I guess they should probably just try to get him to sign for 4 years early so they don't have a Hayward situation again. Im pretty sure plenty of teams will offer him that in RFA.

X ain't going anywhere.
Hayward ain't going anywhere.
Hill is as good as gone.

Yeah, Keith Smith, AKA Smitty from Realgm, has some inside contacts around the league and does come through with good info at times. However, more than once he has written something that makes me believe his Utah contacts are some kids that work at the concessions stand.

He is way off here in that the Jazz don't see Exum as simply a backup PG with Hill here. Those guys can play together and no way whatsoever is Utah letting Exum walk if Hill re-signs.

Exum still has a year to test his mettle, lets say he shoots it lights out from 3 and keeps showing progress some **** team could easily justify running up a huge offer for him..

There's a wide variety of teams who might be interested in paying Exum big $$.. Could even be the Spurs, Raptors, Knicks, Mavs, Kings, Bulls, Pacers, 76ers, Nuggets and definitely the Nets.

I said very early this season that Exum could be productive like a $10MM player for a team like the Nets this year, now the price seems much higher.

I'd say a ballpark figure is 21MM a year..

TBD if the Sixers (or their ilk in the "developing teams with oodles of cap space and young talent) are willing to commit that much cap for an old PG. If Hill lacks durability this year, could get much worse. I think he may wind up with something like a 3/60 contract, which should be palatable to the Jazz. If longer-richer, he's gone.

The Nets terrify me for every potential RFA in the market. They will overpay until they find a team that won't match. They freaking paid a ton to try and get Allen Crabbe.
