Exum extension

there's no legitimate impetus on the horizon which leads to a choose between X or Hood decision because they're both RFA's...

only way that could even be remotely a choice is if they recklessly run up the cap into Cavs territory, or are dead set on penny pinching.
He was saying to choose between X and hood (keep both) or hill.

If the choice is between Hood + X & Hill, you have to choose the former.

What if the choice is lose Hill for nothing and retain Hood and Exum. Or retain Hill and Hood plus whatever Exum would net in a trade or Hill and Exum and whatever Hood would net in a trade.

It's complex and it is a pivot point for us. If Retaining Hill requires a max deal I'm out... unless declining means Gordo leaves too. But let's say Hood and Hill cost about the same (once Hood gets an extension)... which player helps us win more games the next 4 years?

I don't have the answers just presenting the argument and that it's complex with lots of moving parts... many options but it's clear... we don't get to do the status quo.

I stand by my stance. I'd rather overpay for Exum after next year when he has shown he has all star potential than overpay for him when he's shown nothing. Either way you overpay for him.

I'd rather have him at max dollars knowing he has a shot at all star level then have him at 15-20 million per year with a hope he has all star potential.

I think you have to seriously consider the weight retaining Hill would have on retaining Gordon. I still think you keep Hill for whatever number it takes and then trade him next offseason.

Until the last 15 games he looked like a guy that might not be in the league in a few years and yes it was depressing.

I hope he builds off of his most recent success but it is a small sample and I'd have a really hard time committing much more than the amount I stated... green has the right attitude... hopefully he's worth a max deal in a year and I expect him to wait but if it's for an extension this summer I'd be really hesitant due to small sample size.

Dude it is Dennis's job to project what type of player he will become. Any idiot can match a big contract after a guy is already putting up numbers or wait until his value has plummeted to trade him.

Exum will get a fat contract. If Lindsey thinks he's worth it he should extend him if not he should trade him. Lindsay already flushed an entire season by sitting on his hands, got nothing out of Kanter because he sat on his hands, he's in Greater danger of losing Hayward now because he sat on his hands. Dude really really really needs to be more proactive.

We are in a tough place with Hill. If I'm Hayward and you don't resign Hill, I strongly consider going to Boston. But, resigning Hill means in three years, you have a huge albatross around your neck.

I still think if you are Utah, you try to trade for Hill's replacement before the draft. You put everyone not named Hayward and Gobert available. Try to get Lillard, McCollum, Dragic, Bledsoe (although I might want Hill over Dragic), whoever. Don't wait until free agency. Besides, you can't keep everyone so don't Millsap/Jefferson this team and wait until everyone leaves as a free agent. Be proactive and go get your third leg to your chair.

I agree but Dante may be one of the most difficult guys to project in the league... you could tell me in 3 year's he is the best player on our team or that he is the best player on our D league team and I would not be surprised.

I would only extend guys I was more certain of or that were taking significant discounts.

Did Flea consult Mitch Kupcheck on his FA signings last summer?

We can't have a bad, big contract imo... will handicap us too much.
