Exum will sign qualifying offer and subsequently leave

In regards to Donovan, that is the mentality real players, not role players take. He has that "It" factor that very few at this level seem to have. Not saying he's LeBron but the fearless attitude and absolute confidence in every situation is a godsend to this team.

I know.... Dame with defense. It's epic.

Exum didn't take 15 shots a game because he didn't want to/couldn't create them for himself. This is the real reason. If you go back to game threads of Exum's rookie season you will see how frustrated people were that he was extremely passive and even when he had wide open lanes to the basket he was stopping and passing the ball off to other players to create. I've personally screamed at my TV "GO TO THE FREAKING BUCKET" on numerous occasions watching Exum. I've posted gifs here with situations where Exum has lanes of 8-10 feet of clear space around the rim and he simply refused to take it to the bucket.

This started to change a bit last year and his aggression level was a bit better, but still he didn't have anywhere close tot he skill Mitchell has right now to create his own shot and not to turn it over in the process. Add to this the fact that Mitchell is not shy about taking shots and that we actually need him to take shots right now and you will know why he's jacking this many shots.

I'm confused though. He is a guy that has the speed to get anywhere on the court. It is illogical to suggest he can't create his own shot. If he can get by his defender, he can always get a shot - just sometimes not the shots he wants. I think it is as you point out, more about attitude and confidence of making the shots and not pissing off Hayward and coach etc. And yes, DM's handle is far better at this stage than Xs was in his rookie year - prob still better than his now.

As a guy who has a lot of faith in X and think he's going to be just fine. You almost make me not like him. You continue to ignore the team dynamic and the differences in the personalities of the 2 players. Yes Mitchell is inefficient, So is X so far in his career. The differences are that Mitchell has a more aggressive personality and this team needs somebody to become a scorer. If Exum was healthy right now I'd expect him to be more aggressive as well and have more opportunity than ever before. Also if Exum was healthy it would have taken longer for Mitchell to start getting this much opportunity. The situations just are not the same. If Exum is offended by the opportunity that Mitchell is having then he should have been more aggressive earlier in his career and he should work his *** off to come back and show his ability when he does. Their is an spot on this team for a real offensive leader and so far Mitchell has show more promise in that regard.

Speed means nothing if you can't get the ball where you want to go with you. Exum's handle has never been great and secure... especially against pressure and in traffic. The splitting of double teams that Mitchell does on multiple occasions every game are something Exum was never able to do. You can probably count the Exum's double team splits on the fingers of one hand for the duration of his whole career with the Jazz...

Exum has never fared well with pressure and double teams

Not even all the speed in the world can help u if u struggle with dribbling a basketball.

Most of the time Exum isn't doubled teamed though right? The help defender keeps an eye on the penetration and it is single coverage.

Splitting double teams is hardly the only way to deal with amped up pressure.

this is spot on, absolutely. He's going to be good, and when he gets back he's going to play plenty. I'm sure he's more than happy for Mitchell the way his rookie season is panning out.
