Exum's Highlights from last night #3

Good offensive game for him. Every game he looks more confident and aggressive--but he still plays very shy; like when he gets that steal and is one-on-one, he could have easily scored or at least drew the foul there. Even if he turned it over I would like to see him go for it. I don't think he's afraid of contact so much as he's afraid of making a mistake. I don't think he's passive as much as overcautious, which comes from his lack of experience in a competitive league. He's hyper aware of himself. It seems like he's trying to prove to everyone, and himself, that he belongs out there. The good news is that he has. 9 points and 5 assists +11 in 20 minutes for someone of his experience level is very encouraging.

Good analysis, Fallenchicken.

I'll add that I think this is as much about strength as anything - in the few clips that emerged from the U19 we see a very aggressive Exum. In addition to the "rookie jitters" I think our boy is a bit shellshocked by the sheer physicality of defending NBA bigs. An off-season at P3 or the Hayward Muscle Milk program is going to do wonders for him. As he grows into his frame, assuming he can do it in a way that preserves his quickness, watch out.

The combination of speed, length, and intelligence is unreal. Add strength and a bit more polished shooting, both of which I'm confident he'll develop, and he's going to be a superstar and likely the best point guard in the league. As soon as Paul, Parker, and Rose hit their decline - something that seems to be coming sooner than later, we're basically down to a top PG contingent of Curry, Westbrook, Wall, and Irving. I think Exum's floor is being better than two of them.

you know what sticks out to me the most when I watch Exum play....

1. he doesn't force anything. No real terrible shot selection from what I have seen.
2. He is a PASS FIRST point guard. He is always looking for the open man
3. he has great length...I havent watched him much on defense but he has all the attributes to be a really elite defender.

still a big question mark for me, but he is playing at a decent level. he is showing up when we need him in the second unit. But time will tell.

He has a lot of things that he needs to work on still.

Agreed on all points. Also, the biggest thing for me is his willingness to be coached. Been to every home game this year, and you can constantly hear Quin yelling "EX, do _____. Ex, watch for _____." And he listens. He has absolutely no ego problems whatsoever despite being a top 5 pick.
Also, he's a team player and usually is one of the firsts to jump off the bench and applaud his teammates.
The kid is very special.

In case you missed the game...

9pts, 5assists, 1steal

I especially like how he's starting to find open lanes as well now and is able to score effortlessly with floaters, scoop shot, layups, etc, utilising his speed and quickness.

Appreciate you posting these - please keep doing it. Watching these is a highlight of the work day.

Also - where the hell does Exum's court vision come from!? Is it just the fact that he's tall enough to be able to see everything that's happening on the court? And the fact his intelligence tests are off the charts?
