One of my favourite movies as well. I probably only understand about 5% of it as it's one of the most mind twisting movie I'd seen.
I've seen it probably 20 times. It covers an incredible amount of ground in 77 minutes.
The intricacies/layers of the dialogue/story are nothing short of brilliant. Part of the dialogue is meant to produce the effect of losing the viewer though, which is certainly absorbed by the audience on the first viewing.
I can answer most questions about the story, I recommend it all the time and it's failsafe that people get confused. It naturally leaves you with so many questions to be asked that many people just get the "I missed it" feeling and their waiting for answers/closure they ultimately don't get. Which is how you get mixed reviews and people not being able to follow the basics...
Once you peel back the layers of the onion it gets much better though, everything is weaved together in such a way that a much bigger picture is painted. There's key parts to the story going on throughout that aren't noticeable at all on the first watch, it's kind of the ultimate 'who done it?' film, it's LOADED with context clues.
