What's new

Favors finally arrived?

I'd like to see more P&R between Burke/Exum and Gobert and then also Hayward and Favors. Make it so you can run P&R from anywhere with anybody. Then have whoever the SG is sit on the line and be a sharpshooter from downtown. The future starting lineup is going to be Gobert, Favors, Hayward and hopefully Exum (if he can make a huge jump mentally and physically.) Not sure if Burks is the other starter, but he might end up being the best option.

We need PnR between Favors and Gobert. Who's gonna block the lob pass from Favors up high to Gobert?

We need guards who are better defenders. Houston shot 34 3's. GS went 13-25. Not going to win by allowing teams to abuse us behind the arc.

As for Favors, yes...he has arrived. Gobert/Favors is the best combination. Not saying Kanter can't be our third big. Maybe he will. But Favors is a stud! He has a nasty spin move to the basket. Overplay that and he has the baby hook or finger roll at the hoop. Or maybe he just takes that sweet midrange J. Unbelievable what he's done over the last 2 years to make himself better.

Was thinking the same thing about Favors. He's almost exactly the same age Karl Malone was his second year in the league. That was kind of a break-out year for Karl. Not saying he's going to be another Mailman, but maybe we haven't seen his ceiling yet.

So has Hayward but we still blow. This season has been tough to watch. Exum looks like he needed a few years of playing in the NCAA. Trey is still a mystery to me - and I know most have already soured on him and wish to see him go. Bottom line is we need a consistently productive point guard for us to reap the benefits of Favors' arrival as it were.

I'd bet US currency you're a box score fan and watch Sportscenter on the weekends.....

Haven't you seen how much D-League fodder is playing for the Jazz this season? This season is anything but tough to watch.

His jump shot is by far the biggest improvement in his game. His defense has been there. He has been able to finish at the rim at a high level for awhile. He has had a jump shot but no confidence behind it. He is confident and hitting it at a high percentage. The rest of his game comes easier when defenders have to respect his mid range J.
He has never finished at the rim as well as he is now though. And he's not even shown a hint of having this many moves either.

During Derrick's second year in Utah, Ron Boone said Favors biggest problem may be he doesn't realize how good he can be - l think he's starting to realize how good he can be.

Interesting. I'm really enjoying this year (and that's even with Burks being injured)

Gotta keep the wristband look. It's uber cool. This team needs more swag like that ish.

Good post.
I truly am amazed at far that jumpshot has come. Favors offense is quite a bit further along than I expected at this point..... pretty decent passer too

Averaging 21.2 and 10.2 the last five games. I'd like to see this trend continue over another 7-8 games to feel like he's truly arrived. I think he has though and still isn't nearly where he'll be in 3-4 years.

I'm with Quin. He's had a couple really good games. Let me see it for a month and then maybe he's arrived. It's been awesome to watch, but way too soon to say.
