Favors-Kanter duo on nba.com

Enes seems avoiding hustle. I hope it's a preseason thing. That was what I feared about the injury the whole off-season.

It also looks like Kanter is going to have to learn to do what Malone had to do to improve his free throw shooting. I don't know how many people remember, but in his early days Malone was fairly quick on the free throw line, and would launch that shot almost while running back downcourt. Like he was so concerned about getting back on defense. Consequently he was better at making the first, and often missed the second since he was vacating the spot. When he developed his routine at the line, it slowed him down, but is also got him to stay planted throughout the shot, which helped improve his free throw shooting dramatically. Kanter is shooting mid-range jumpers like Malone shooting free throw in the early days. He has no extension and no follow-through and then vacates the spot rather than staying put to complete the shot. It will help his game if he can learn to square up and follow through and finish the shot, then move. His mid-range game is decent now, but it could be fantastic if he nails that down.

Classic case of not knowing your personnel by Kanter. You keep a body on Deandre at all times because the lob comes second nature to them. On offense as well, Kanter was throwing some weak put backs up that will simply be blocked 9 out of 10 times by Jordan.

This is the other thing Kanter needs to learn from the mailman. Go up strong, put that body into folks, force the contact, and hold on to the ball to finish. Pocket it, take one step across the lane then go up strong with DJ on the weakside now. Now Jordan has to reach across Kanter's body and his own to make the block, making a foul far more likely, and giving Kanter a shot to finish. This weak-*** standing flat-footed and trying to flip it up there fast will never work in the NBA. The players are far too fast and strong to allow that crap.

It's not really breaking news. We all knew our defense was much better with those 2 on the floor. Still a good topic.
