Tremendous Upside

Even Vando fans seem to be squinting reeeaaaallly hard to see his upside, and that's never a good sign.
Here in the real world, he's a guy who destroys your spacing by being unable and unwilling to shoot, can't finish layups or floaters if there's a defender within 5 feet, is a terrible FT shooter (who doesn't even get to the line nearly enough, particularly when you consider that he likes to play near the basket), has zero defensive discipline and bad footwork.
Vando hustles and rebounds. That's it. Chaotic offensive rebounding is by far his best skill, and that's something that just can't be your only calling card in the NBA. Not in 2023.
What annoys me the most is the narrative that Vando is a good defender. No idea where that originated. He's a ball watcher whose attention comes and goes.
Vando is the ultimate luxury. A team like the Jazz can't afford luxuries, not yet.
