What's new

Final Roster Spot / MLE

What do you guys think of taking a chance on Greg Oden??? A two year deal with a team option after the first year...I know, I know, he's always hurt. But he has monster upside, is a major defensive presence and if we're looking to move Jefferson, I wouldn't mind him becoming our 4th big. Imagine a healthy Oden/Favors combo.

Note: He has just been cleared to work out...Seven teams have supposedly been keeping a close eye on him.

If the Jazz were going to take a chance on Oden, now would be the time. If the Jazz went after him it would be great if the Jazz could work out a 3 year deal with team options for each of the last two years.

C - Jefferson, Kanter
PF - Favors, Millsap, Evans
SF - Ma Williams, Carroll
SG - Burks, Hayward, Murphy
PG - Mo Williams, Watson, Tinsley

We're already at essentially 13 players and have no major minutes available for anyone. Seriously, what FA is going to want to sign with us when we tell him he's only around as injury insurance? The other thing is that KOC does not want to use up salary space for next season. I'm sure there have been a few offers for Jefferson: expirings always have value. But, again, why would we want to take on salary for next season or beyond? I'm only in favor of that if a deal returns a starter or legit 6th man (like we got with Marvin).

NO one that is left is of much interest. I've said this before, but Utah might be better off just letting AJ's contract expire and heading into the next offseason with up to $20M in salary space. Few teams are able to absorb Al's contract so they'd likely have to give us players in return: 1) contenders aren't going to give up anything of value; 2) non-playoff teams will generally want to dump big contracts and won't want to give up high draft picks.

Next year we pick up a young PG to develop and a tough, defensive center. We'll have more than the MLE to spend, which gives us an edge over many teams and we'll probably have 2 first-round draft picks. Two picks (and a 2nd) + 1-2 FA's to replace Jefferson, Watson and Tinsley. And perhaps Millsap and/or Marvin depending on how contract talks go - or if Marvin wants to opt in (which I think is almost a certainty).

Jazz need to add another wing player. We are thin at 2/3. Carrol and Murphy look like scrubs. Which means we are essentially going with 3 rotation players at the 2/3 in Williams, Burks and Hayward. I wish we could cut Murphy and add some veteran who could give us 10-15 mins or more of solid D and not so bad offense. Josh Howard himself wouldnt be too bad for the right $$$

It's time we throw the cats in the fire. Let Burks be our 6th man off the bench, and give Murphy spot mins. Hayward starts at the 2, and moves to the 3 at times to play with Burks or Murphy.
Add in Deron Washington as your end of the bench scrub for toughness, and dunks, and the 2/3s are fine.

No more old washed up vets taking time for the true talent/future.

It's time to give burks major mins, and that doesn't happen if we bring in a vet SG.

There is a chance if we trade Jefferson we end up taking 2 players back. That will fill the roster. As soon as the d12 trade comes down Jefferson becomes a bigger commodity.
