Corbin is playing it safe and Jazz management is letting him. If Utah wanted Corbin to give more minutes to Kanter or Favors, they would have done a MoneyBall move and traded Jefferson and/or Millsap. Instead, they seem to like the status quo. I don't think it is all on Coach Corbin, as he is just following the lead of the Jazz brass. He is playing it safe and that is what someone who could be fired if they take a risk does. With the youth movement, Utah would have been better served with an outside the box coach that is willing to take more of a risk like Mark Jackson or Tom Thibodeau.

Don't you dare say the Jazz would be better with a coach like Mark Jackson! Blasphemy!
 
When Kanter and Favors (and Hayward and Burks) are the 'vets' on the team it will be great when they get a ton of time. I think his mistake was playing Millsap so many minutes when he was still recovering from a sprained ankle. He seems to be really good at developing players, considering how good Favors and Kanter are playing with less time on the floor. If there was one thing that I would change about his coaching it would be pulling vets earlier when they preform badly, and yes, that would have helped as far as getting the '0'fers off the floor earlier yesterday. Realize that the only point guard that got any points yesterday was Burks (and he's a combo guard)
 
Is Stan Van Gundy an option? Has this been addressed?

I think he'd leap at the opportunity given our young roster.

- Player dev't coach 10 -- I see a lot of rookies have the game of their carreer while playing the Jazz.
- Offensive coach 10 -- I'm offended every game by his substitutions.
- Defensive coach 10 -- He defends his vets without fail.
- Player management (locker room, buy-in to a common vision/goal) 10 -- the vets love him; I even saw Earl slip him a couple C notes after the game.
- Game management (substitutions, x's and o's) 10 -- no one plays a meaner game of tic-tak-toe.

Before anyone answers, please be advised I'll ask for specific evidence that corroborates any favorable (no pun intended) answers.

I think Ty is the best, active, NBA head coach on Greg's payroll.
 
Regardless of what I or others feel about Ty Corbin, I'm confident he will remain head coach of the Utah Jazz through the 2013-14 season. The Utah Jazz will look at Corbin's job performance and see the .500 record and "difficult" circumstances in which he inherited the job without taking into account actual performance and decision-making processes with the roster he has.

While the best-case scenario is that over the next year Corbin learns how to be an NBA coach and put his best players in a position to succeed (which in Ty's case is often putting them on the floor instead of the bench) - a secondary alternative would be for Kevin O'Connor to stop giving Ty more opportunities to make the same mistakes he's been making (such as not signing as many veteran role-players/journeymen who Ty elevates to a starting status). It's kind of like a parent who shouldn't come home from the store with 3 dozen powdered donuts even though he has a diabetic kid who will eat them all. At this point, if Corbin is going to be Utah's coach then KOC needs to stop giving him as many opportunities to make mistakes.
 
In the event that Corbin is let go, do you think we promote internally again (Jeff) or go outside to hire?
 
The only "inside hire" I would even consider making would be Jeff Hornacek. Going as far back to 2000 when he retired, Jeff was someone multiple people in the organization (from Larry Miller to his teammates) as someone who they felt had the intelligence and personality to be a future head coach. I also find it interesting watching games going into and coming out of timeout you'll see Jeff spending more 1-on-1 time talking to Hayward, Burks and Kanter than any other Jazz coaches do with players. While I think it would be a great move to make an outside hire to try and negate some of the "loyalty over results" priorities that have come to a head now but Hornacek is one exception I'd make in searching for canidates. Unlike Corbin when he was an assistant, I've always though Jeff would make a great coach - but hey I've been wrong before.
 
Yes, I thought of Horny too. He's been real laid back and supportive so far as an assistant, playing his role perfectly. Wonder how he would be as head coach, and played the same role with Stock-Malone. He knows the game though, as evidenced by his bb IQ as a player.
