Florida's debated welfare drug-screen measure kicks in

well at least they're not driving Cadillacs anymore

Example One. You test positive and go on welfare helping to buy food for your kids and pay the bills.
Example Two. You test positive and your kids are ****ed every which way but Wednesday.

It's not as black and white as I or anyone else here is making it.

Uhh, yeah it is....DON'T DO F'IN DRUGS!

Wait, who drives Escalades?

I've only seen Mormon Moms whose husbands either work as lawyers up in SL or work at the Provo hospital. Never anyone on welfare.

I guess that's what I get for living in Utah County....

On the surface, this law helps satisfy a lot of angry emotions.

But then once that annoying piece of crap known as the brain kicks in, it tells otherwise. How much more are the drug tests going to cost the state? How many people is it really going to prevent to offset the administrative costs? And are drug tests all of a sudden fool proof now?

I think asking people to use their welfare money wisely is probably a good idea. They need to be accountable. But I wonder if this really helps?

Exactly this. The punishment is going to be felt by the kids of these junkies who can't eat anymore more than the adults who can't get their fix.

lol, it's not a punishment. It is one of many requirements that must be met before being given assistance.

That's the funny thing about programs like this. When a person isn't able to stand on their own two feet and others provide for their survival the people footing the bill feel entitled to set the terms of the arrangement. It is essentially a parent/child relationship. Programs like this never further the cause of equality. They never empower the recipient. They deepen the dependence of the poor and along the way provide poor people with a sense of justification and entitlement.

I suppose we are punishing millions of families in Africa? Or are you able to see that the children in Africa are not our responsibility, just as the children of a crack-head are not my responsibility. Or are African, or Mexican, or Chinese children just not deserving of our support because they're not Americans? Does the value of Human life vary depending on nationality, or distance from you, or by race? Why is it okay for some children to starve yet my responsibility to feed children who actually wouldn't starve even without the government programs.

Well, since you choose to live in the US and pay taxes you are claiming responsibility for the children of crack heads. We're all looking out for each other, that's how our leaders designed the country.

Holy. ****ing. ****. No.

You apply to a job, they hire you. They drug test you when you start the job before they give you their money.
You want welfare, the state drug tests you before they give you their (our) money.

So, where is the problem?
I've never once in my life took a job that drug tested, and I've been gainfully employed since I was 16.

Wonder if they're testing for alcohol. I doubt it. Guess the state doesn't mind if you're on one drug and on welfare.

Same here. But then again, I've had 2 jobs in that time frame (one of which is working for my father).

I have yet to work at a job that doesn't drug test.

But I am not in the porn industry like you guys. ;)
