Does Hayward stay though? Even if we make the playoffs, I'd still be worried about him leaving. Maybe trading for Boston's pick isn't the right answer, but it's not a terrible option if you're the GM and think Hayward is more than likely gone.

That's the biggest question and that why(not the fake he's not a first option argument) trading him might make sense - if you have any indication that he plans on testing FA(as in go about wining and dining), you just have to consider trading him, because he's too good of a player to lose him for nothing.

it's two-pronged

- we all know how financially-conscious & family-oriented Hayward is. No one can offer him the contract that the Jazz can; and his style of play isn't exactly one that screams for endorsements. What big deals will he get if he moves to the Lakers or Celtics?
- Hayward will leave if the team shows him nothing this year. If we get first-round swept, I'll be worried. If we hit the second round, I think he's guaranteed to stay. In terms of competitive teams with young talent where he can be the star, only Boston really jumps at me (along with the Brad Stevens connection). Jazz need to sell to him that the Jazz are the team with better long-term prospects.

Given how well-rounded our team is, I think we're a draft-steal and 1-2 solid FA pickups away from 5th seed this coming season. I say keep Hayward through the offseason and only look to trade if the team is slumping & he wants out

every smart player should go about wining and dining. It's dumb to tell an athlete otherwise. This romantic conception of sticking with one team for your entire career only makes sense if you're a HOF or if you have a HOF coach/GM combination.

Durant would be a ****ing idiot to not consider all of his options, for example.

Yeah, but he is white and could easily blow up endorsement wise if he went to LA. You know all about that white privilege.
 
How much more $ can the Jazz offer Hayward vs other teams? Anyone know the exact numbers?

quite frankly, i think we were a 5th seed if we had completely healthy seasons from Rudy and Fav this season.
 
Word is if Bender is not taken by Boston or the Suns at 4...that he could fall out of top-10. You buy that Steve ?

i think he'd blow up if LA became a playoff team again.


As it stands, they're probably 4-5 years away from that.

Nah, no one has a history of turning around their team as fast as LA. They will get some star in FA eventually or they will trade for one. If they add Hayward onto that they could be good very fast.

I guess I have to agree, maybe I didn't phrase it right. I meant more as - if he gives u indication that he leans towards not staying.
