What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

Basically. I just think if Gilchrist can't improve his shot, he is probably destined to have a Ronnie Brewer career.

... and what if Barnes can't improve his? Seriously. This isn't a UK thing, it's a bb thing. Barnes shot 34.4% from last year. Everyone knows he has no ability, at this point, to slash into the lane. He sucks as a catch-and-shoot. How does 'that guy' make it in the NBA? Now, MKG gets to the rim as well as any SF in the past 10 years (take my word for it), gets to the line, makes the pass, is an elite defender, makes the blocks, hustles, and shot 7% more from the arc than did Barnes as a prep senior.

I like Barnes, but you need more to your argument .. in the event you want to argue prior to watching these guys go at it.

Then why would you take him 3rd overall?

And Barnes subpar % can be explained due to his horrendous start to the season.

Do you watch? Do you know the actual stats.. or just read what's fed? Barnes had a better 2nd half of the season, for sure. But, he raised his 3pt% from 31% to 34% behind a blistering 37%. Yawn.

As I have said MANY times before, I take him #3 because his mechanics are solid, his shot is pretty, and I believe he will become a fluid, lights-out shooter. Not sure why you continue to argue these things. I've articulated my thoughts well, I've supported my claims, and you've done very little more than ask that I repeat myself. I like you though, so I stay engaged.

This is what happens when there's no actual games to base anything on....

Lol, yep. I actually enjoy the back and forth, truth be known.

For those that will simply be looking at boxscores (more so than watching the games), the better comparison will be Jones and Barnes. Gilchrist will do all the little things this year that are more difficult to find in a boxscore, while both Barnes and Jones will be expected to carry more of a scoring load. I suspect those two, like last year, will have very similar numbers .. with Barnes having a better 3pt% and Jones averaging far more rebounds.

Gillie will play around 25 minutes per game and will average around;
12/13 points (very efficiently)
6/7 rebounds
4/5 assists
2'ish blocks
2'ish steals

... and I will say will be the unsung MVP (Jones will get the credit because he'll have more gaudy stats)

I am ok with Gilchrist being underrated. I would love this kid on the Jazz. A SG-SF rotation of Burks, Hayward and Gilchrist would be great. I think the Jazz are going to get another very good player in this draft if they have a pick and if there is an NBA season.

PKM,

Any recent videos of Gilchrist? I would be interested in seeing him against better competition. As a side note, I am warming up to Teague more and more.

I've most always got more vid .. I just try to not overdo it so I'm not seen as anymore biased than I am. Though I'm obviously a huge UK fan, I want the Jazz to get the BPA, regardless of where they went to college. I'll dig some up and post.

As for Teague, I am still not quite sold, though the coaching staff is falling in love. He's the best PnR guy Cal's ever coached, extremely physical (solid as a rock) and uses his strength to bully on defense. A couple of our guys said Teague 'hurts them' when they're being defended by him (foul? lol). He did have 9 assists, 2 steals, and only 2 TO's in game 1 .. so that's a good start, we'll see.
