What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

My main concern with Parker is his lateral quickness. I don't think that's over thinking, he really just doesn't have it.

He'll still be a stud though.

My concern is that he won't be able to shake his defender at the next level, and he'll have to take tough contested shots. He'll hit some of them, but we want a guy who will get us easy shots, not hit tough shots.

Paul Pierce looked great as a 2nd-option playing off of KG. He wasn't a first-option guy.

Carmello hits tough shots too, but a team can't rely on that when the game is on the line.

Exum is going to be able to get an open pull-up look from 15 - 18 feet all night.

Embiid can score around the rim or collapse the D and pass the ball.

What's Parker going to do that we can rely on?

I think his value lies in that he will be able to shoot over most defenders that can match his quickness and overpower defenders that are his height. Plus, he's going to be a heady player and have nifty footwork and draw fouls well imo. Also, it doesn't matter how tough the shots are if they go in

I'll assume his handles and shooting will both improve throughout his career, which will determine how good he becomes.

Like I said, trying to nitpick. It isnt a science how to scout. Its more of a feel. You can take all the measurements you want, and study the footwork, or shooting stroke. But you just cant caculate the intangibles, or whatever you want to
call it. You cant look at body types or skillsets and say they are this or that type of player. Its all about whats going on in his mind and heart. That will determine if he is just average or great. No, I dont know either if he is going to be great,, but my instincts are telling me that he has the "It". Whatever "It" is. You can just see that he owns the court when he steps on it.

Word

And this is why drafting is pretty much a crapshoot. More dependent on the mindset and work ethic of the draftee than anything else
