Following potential 2014 draftees

I just wish there was a way to add another pick in the teens for next year. I don't see how it's possible unless the Jazz trade a member of the C4. I don't think Burks gets you back into the teens next year unless he has a massive breakthrough type year.

Second option:

Maybe the best way to strengthen our hand in next year's draft is to strengthen our hand in this draft. Hear me out...

Let's take an aggressive approach as an example:

1. Pick up 2 more draft picks this year, somewhere between 12 and 18.
2. Select McCollum, Austin, Giannis, and Schroeder.
3. Leave the euros in Europe for a year.
4. Play the C4 + McCollum and Austin serious minutes next year.
5. Use some combo of a member of the C4, McCollum, Austin, or the Euros to get a high 2014 pick.
6. Bring everybody together the season after next.

7. Loaded

I don't think he'll be there with our 2nd round pick...

Cap space may get us two picks in the 20s. We may be able to package those for a pick in the teens.

You wanted a scenario.... here's one.
I want more than a 20's pick for cap space. Cap space better bring us a quality rotation player, not just a very speculative rookie draft pick. Besides, I think there might be teams willing to just sell a 1st-round pick for $3M. Contenders are going to strecthed thin in terms of payroll. And they'd rather have a vet to shore up their rotations than a rookie at the end of the 1st round.

Technically, he said a teens pick in next draft.. I think.

You'd think so, but our FO hasn't shown lately the ability to find such a head-to-toe winning deal.

And besides.... I'm thinking about potential homerun draft picks or amazing FA signings. "Rotation players" aren't gonna take us to the next level.

Neither are picks in the teens. I know the draft is deep, but even at that, count on getting more of a Burks-type player in the late lottery, not a Lillard.
Yes, I do agree with PKM that picks can be combined. But what would, say a 14 and 24 get? I'm guessing maybe a jump of no better than 3-4 spots.
We better get a "homerun" player with our pick (likely top-10 if Utah goes with a youth movement) and THEN get additional picks or solid veterans with the cap relief manuevers.

If we had two 2014 picks and that stack of assets I just listed, then we'd be able to slide up the board with each pick. Moving from 10 to 6 or 7 could be great. Etc.

Don't be a wet blanket. Sketch another idea rather than poopoo this one, since I'm not that invested in it and it isn't impossible either.
