Following potential 2014 draftees

I never understood the personal attacks

right now if I was gm this is what my team would look like after next draft assuming jazz pick #3, #20 (gsw) and trade burks and rush for a pick in the teens.

Parker
young
Harris

Burke, Neto
Hayward, Harris
Parker, young
kanter, Williams (mid level deal)
favors, Gobert

way to many rookies

Not to spoil the love-fest here, but Catchall compared Archie Goodwin to Michael Jordan and thinks Kevin Garnett would be the best SF of all time.

I compared the 'fire in the eyes' Goodwin has to that of Jordan. I do think KG rocks as an unguardable SF in an all-time fantasy draft. But that idea doesn't get much traction.

I don't mind people ripping on me. It comes with the territory. Calling it 'inbred' and 'stupidity' and whatnot, seemed a bit much.

It gets MAJOR traction with me.

You say "fire" I say "hunger". Same thing. Agreed with this too.

Really like Jabari's game. A lot.

As a market that has a hard time getting players to choose us, Parker might be the guy for us to draft. He should fit in being LDS, he should feel right at home here and play his entire career here. Just get the prophet to comand him to stay, and for cheep:)

That's a lot of rookies, yeah, but it's also a lot of guys who are going to demand over $10 mil one after another, and demand shots and minutes. Also, Young and Harris don't get enough minutes in your lineup. It's a log jam.

I get greedy and want to add Andrew Harrison or Dante Exum to that mix, even if it means giving up a big sooner or later. Maybe moving Kanter is just a bad idea. Will see.

But lets say we extend Hayward and then Kanter next year. We draft well in the next draft. Do we extend Burks or is he out the door? I guess we have three years before we have to think about extending Parker and the other new rookie, and we have two years after this season before we have to worry about Burke and Gobert. That gives us time to move someone. However, it's obvious that not everyone is going to get paid. This isn't like the Jazz of the past where we had three good players and other guys like CJ Miles. This is a situation where 6 or 7 guys deserve extensions and serious minutes. We probably can't keep everyone.

This. Great marketing opportunities too.

I understand what Catchall is saying, but I don't want to give up Favors or Kanter for anything short of a top 3 pick in 2014. I like the idea of having twin towers too much. It's so hard to match up with over a 7 game series (assuming they both pan out pretty well, which I think they will).
Agree. The only reason to move Kanter is if he wants too much. Favors is already signed for a reasonable amount. Of course, the idea behind the contract is that he keeps working with Malone each off-season and improving. If he pulls an AK, you trade him. If Randle happened to be the BPA when the Jazz pick, they draft him, have an amazing 4/5 rotation and then decide what to do with either Kanter or Favors. I don't see the Jazz taking Embiid or cauley-Stein, but let's hope those guys have monster seasons and push other players down (in case the Jazz end up somewhere in the 6-8 range). Personally, I see Burks and Burke as replaceable. They can be added to a trade package to get whatever we're still missing after the draft.

Concentrate on getting the best core-4 possible and add a scorer off the bench. Then fill in the 5th starter and add a couple of solid backups. That gets the team to their 8-man rotation. The rest of the team is made up of rookies and vet minimum players. I agree some hard choices will have to be made. Fortunately, Lindsey has some years with multiple picks. I think the Jazz can stagger some contracts so they just cross into the luxury tax once or twice, but don't incur the repeat offender penalty. The Millers might do that if the team is contending.

Part of me also thinks Gobert can be a double-double player and also lead the league in blocks--the kind of guy you start and give heavy minutes to. Keeping him and Favors would still give us a twin-tower effect and then some. Moving a big for a pick (especially in this draft) could land us a player like Andrew Harrison to go along with Parker, and we might still be able to get a solid back-up caliber big later in the draft (GSW pick) or through free agency if/when we decide extending Kanter for big money may not be our best play longer term.

A core 4 of Harrison, Hayward, Parker and Favors, backed by Gobert looks awfully solid to me.

I really like Kanter, and I get the bird in the hand thing. I'm just saying an aggressive GM might be open to aiming higher in this upcoming draft. At some point, there just aren't enough minutes, dollars and shots to go around.

Look at Detroit who isn't expected to offer an extension to Greg Monroe. They'll probably keep him as an RFA, but they're not committing.

I proposed numerous times on this thread and others that we should trade: Favors & Burke for the right to pick Andrew Harrison.

HOWEVER

Favors' offensive development over the past week had really surprised me. It caught EVERYBODY off guard - even Matt Harping who constantly complained about Favors' lack of offensive improvement - this week he gushed over how excited he is about Favors.

If Favors blows up this year in a big way and can somehow average close to 20 and 10, AND Gobert develops into a rookie of the year type season (defense wise), then it would be difficult to give Kanter the big money he's after.

Tough decisions coming up for Lindsey.
