What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

PKM, why are scouts so in love with Exum? I like what I've seen of him, but I haven't seen anything that would make me rank him above Parker. What am I not getting?

Tbh there's 1 athletic play in 10 min of highlight(The bad assist on the alley hoop where his head really nears the rim and his hands soar really high on the glass). 1 contested dunk in the beginning and the rest is above average NBA athleticism paired with an intergalactic skillset that allows him to read the defense and attack it where it's weak. Almost all plays are miscommunication and individual defensive mistakes that Kobe exploits like few do. He notices them being where they're not supposed to be and knows he can be faster at the basket than they can rotate over. And when he finished against the more athletic guys like Smove he put his body as a shield and denied the block attempt like this.
His balance and body control are amazing. It's almost only skill for him, not his physical attributes alone.

This is btw summarizes opinions of actual NBA scouts on the new freshmen diamonds that everyone wants to have. There's also a part about Randle practicing as SF.
And I won't be able to participate in any triple k discussion about it, since I'm on a hunger strike.

I feel the same.

Though he is penny hardaway ish

DX's new mock came out today as well..

Only small differences to the prior one:
-Wayne Selden gaining a couple spots and being ranking close to top10 due to strong start.
-Christon and McAdoo dropped 5-10 spots into mid 20s
-Isaiah Austin from borderline top10 out of the lottery.
-James Young from 2015 to 19th. Aaron Harrison still 2015.(Not sure if Young was reclassified in this or the last one. I read one mock where he was projected 29th earlier this week)
-McDermott and Dario Saric gaining several spots and are now ranked just outside the lottery. Saric really stepped up his game in Croatia. Very strong start against mostly good competition. Still too turnover prone though to be a real point forward at this point.
-Payne and Harris gained several spots after last night's win.

I loved this quote by an NBA executive:

“This is a very good time to suck,” said the executive. “These three players are very different and bring different things to the table, but all three have the potential to be star players in this league and all three may be able to eventually lead their team to a championship. It’s rare for a draft to have three guys like that, but this class just might.”

The Jazz are getting a star. And his supporting cast is already here waiting for him.

....Probably because he can get a long step on most guards, get in the lane and create for himself and others. He's a tough cover. Plus he can shoot, and his drive will give him space to raise up when he wants. Jabari is great, but I'm not sure he puts as much pressure on the defense as Exum could potentially. Plus, Exum could be an elite defensive player.

Edit: I saw this on Chad Ford's chat on ESPN...

Is Dante Exum a top 3 pick?

Chad Ford
I think so. Hearing from sources that he and his family are now strongly leaning toward skipping college and having him go straight into the NBA. Some NBA guys think he should be the No. 1 pick. Will be interesting to see how they feel if the college guys all live up to the hype while Exum is just working out in Australia.

When it's all said and done, Joel Embiid may turn out to be as good a prospect as the top 3. He's got a prototypical body and a lot of talent. DPOY potential and some moxey on offense.

I think the top tier goes 5 deep--Wiggins, Randle, Exum, Parker, Embiid--unless you think Wiggins is on his own level.

Second tier would have Aaron Harrison, Aaron Gordon and Marcus Smart.

The scouting report I watched showed that his outside jumper is a little suspect, if I remember correctly.

I truly hope he's as good as advertised, cause if he is and there are 4 potential superstars, then we're guaranteed one of them with the worst record. I see it with Wiggins/Randle/Parker, but Exum has yet to blow me away (though, I obviously haven't seen him play many times). I really wish we were watching him play college ball with the other prospects right now.

I just hope the Jazz get either #1 or #3. With #2 they'd be prolly forced to take Randle and that IMO would mean rebuilding their inside player as I don't really see him mix up well with either Kanter and Favors. He must be paired with someone like Embiid or WCS to keep the team strong defensively inside.

That's all good to hear. I'm gonna have to find more tape of him online.
