What's new

Following potential 2014 draftees

I'm not understanding why people say Randle is a bad defender? Dude is almost averaging a block a game and he isn't a shot blocker. I have watched a lot of Kentucky this year and #tbh I haven't seen him get destroyed by someone nor have I seen him take a play off.

Maybe it's because his defensive rating is below average.

In case you didn't know, defensive rating is a stat that estimates how many points a player allows per 100 possessions. The lower the score, the better. It certainly doesn't tell you who is the best, but it gives you a good idea of what level they're at on defense.

For example, his defensive rating is around a 97-98 if I remember right. Parker is at a 99. Doug McDermott is something crazy like 106. Embiid is at ~ 91. Marcus Smart is around a 92, but was at 86 his freshman year. Aaron Gordon is around an 89 rating. WCS is at a 91 (he really helped Randle out).

Basically what this tells me is that Embiid, Smart, Gordon and WCS are all really good at defense. Randle and Parker are below-average, and McDermott is horrible.

Also, is your eye test is telling you that Randle is a good defender, then you need to see a new eye doctor.

I can't get over how cool this play was. Give me Stauskas please.

... but I've already established that he has a much better chance of doing that since he eats, sleeps, play ball with Randle.

None of us here can say that.

If ty corbins wife said he could be the next popovich would you sign him to a big extension?

Did I say he was a good defender? No. Dude you are the most antagonistic and negative poster on this board.

You're right, you didn't say he was a good defender. You implied that he was at least average, and perhaps a good defender, so I assumed…my bad.

Anyways, he's a below-average defender. He is, at the very least, on par with Parker on defense…except Parker at least shows that he can block some shots and get some steals, Randle does not show that. He shows limited defensive basketball IQ.

I wouldn't say I'm negative, I'm just #honest. I'm not going to ignore weaknesses because I like a player.

Laughable tbh. Maybe our 2nd round pick. Dude is 7'1 and averages 6.4 RPG.

Understandable take. I've just been so impressed with his offensive game in the tournament. I can see how it would be hard to keep him on the court though, not sure who he would be able to defend.

Perhaps a poor mans Ryan Anderson?

Ah I misread this, I'd like him in 2nd round as well, not with GSW pick.

Yeah, I think it's common knowledge that he's a *****. But he is 7'1'' and can shoot with range and has some decent moves in the post. Wouldn't ever be able to start or anything, but would be worth taking a chance on
