Following potential 2014 draftees

one of my many issues is with a player like Corey Brewer.

he was projected top 10. his family lived in a trailer, poor, with his dad sick from diabetes, having many heart attacks and both legs amputated... to think a rule could have forced him into going to another year of college, just shows one of the many flaws with the rule.

isnt this the land of opportunity? the same country where Mike Tyson can knock out 33year old Trevor Berbik for the Heavyweight championship of the world just after turning 20

were going to prevent basketball players from going pro before 21 for what... safety?

what if NFLer Amobi Okoye was an NBA player... he graduated from Louisville at 19.. hed have to sit 2 years?

Legally, the D-League argument will get torn apart. Sure, they can make a living, but you're putting a false ceiling on their earning potential based solely on age.

Basically "if you were 20 we'd pay you $6mil. How does $200k sound in the meantime? (I have no idea what the D-League pays)".

theres 3 salary classifications in the NBADL, $25,500. $19,000. $13,000

the team salary cap decreased from 178k to 173k this year

They should do it like MLB does it.

You can either leave out of HS, or go to college, but if you go to college, you have to stay for 3 years.

I don't see how this is a bad thing.

Also, Trey is better than Napier. I'm not huge on either one though.

The thought that Thriller likes him more than Burke, while at the same time calling Burke a chucker is hilarious to me. Napier is more of a chucker than Burke is.

Unfortunately, I also think Burke is a fringe starter. I honestly think his best role in the future is as a good backup PG on a good team, in a type of 6th man role, or as a starter on a bad team. His defense is just too bad…he really needs to improve that more than anything else. That's why I wouldn't mind taking Exum even though we already have Burke.

Wisconsin is going to be pretty good as well. Only losing Brust it looks like. Top 5 team definitely if most of the other players declare.

Could you imagine how insane college bball would be next year (and how crappy the nba would be) if all the freshmen stayed for one more year? Several nba franchises would be screwed. But man, Kentucky, Arizona, Duke, and Kansas would be nasty!

Who would win between Kentucky's fab 5 and Kansas's Big 2?
What about Jabari vs Gordon?

It has been mentioned many, many times (including by the likes of PKM) in regards to how inhospitable of a climate it was for high-school athletes during the "high-school draftee era". Many kids were taken advantage of, with companies like Nike showing up in high school gyms.

Peeks, you should have a response saved to a word-document, and copy/paste it every time someone brings this up.

Stauskas, along with McD, will be great values in this draft, looking back I believe. While the very best teams win championships with defense, you still have to put the ball in the basket too. Both look to be able to do that very well while making it easier for others on their given teams to be able to work on the inside a bit easier.

I almost value both equally and I think both are fringe top 10's once you get passed the "he COULD, maybe, be a star" guys.

Stausakas I agree with because he can create his own shot and has the capability to play defense.

I don't agree with McDermott, because he hasn't shown the ability to create his own shot against good opponents, and he absolutely cannot play defense. I most certainly think he can play a role, possibly similar to Kyle Korver (I'm not comparing them as players, just the role they play), but I feel that he's more of a liability on defense than an asset on offense. IMO, you don't take that type of player in the lottery.

I agree with a lot of that but let me ask you this; then whom do you take after the first 8 or so guys? I personally think McD will score efficiently at the next level. That's just an opinion obviously but if I'm right and he can stretch the floor and be in the right defensive scheme, that's a very solid pick.

It's more of a safe pick and not a "swing for the fences" type but after the recognized top 8 this draft is a free for all. At that point, if I'm a GM, I look for a guy with a potential elite level skill. Getting a really solid all around player or all-star is more luck than true scouting later in the draft order, IMO. Sure, Parker is a phenomenal example of the Spurs front office acumen but if they drafted at 5 would they have taken Tony Parker from France over Richardson or Battier? No.

Good points. It's why I hope we don't get a pick that's lower than #5 or #6.

I think Parker may have been an example of a player that just wasn't well-known. I'm not certain, but I feel like that was during the time period when foreign players were still unknown for the most part, except for the Spurs scouts over there.

I wonder who is worse defensively McD or Nikkk??

It might come down to that if you think they can both score just as well. I'm more inclined to say that Nikkk could be a better defender because he seems lighter on his feet.
