Following potential 2014 draftees

^^^

BTW I know it's a different game, but the NZ Breakers - the local basketball team here in NZ, won the NBL Australian Championship three years in a roll on the back of Kirk Penny and CJ Bruton, both of whom are knock-down 3pt shooters with defensive limitations.

Sometimes it helps when you have guys who can just flat out "shoot".

were going to prevent basketball players from going pro before 21 for what... safety?

what if NFLer Amobi Okoye was an NBA player... he graduated from Louisville at 19.. hed have to sit 2 years?

My own opinion is that this is simply a business decision that clearly favors the franchise owners. It's so that owners and GMs can make more informed draft/investment decisions on players, and rely less on advanced scouting.

The draft system is supposed to favor the weaker teams that need to improve in order to win fan support ($$$). However, if a player is too early in his development, then GMs and owners may feel that they don't have enough information to base their drafting decisions, and they risk wasting years and millions of dollars on the wrong player. See Bennett, Anthony; Oden, Greg; and Robinson, Thomas; etc.

Some people would say that's part of the sport--with the draft being an inexact science. Owners are saying, "**** you, and your inexact science."

I wonder who is worse defensively McD or Nikkk??

It might come down to that if you think they can both score just as well. I'm more inclined to say that Nikkk could be a better defender because he seems lighter on his feet.

I think as much as anything, the difference is who else you have on your team and it's current makeup. Both will give you much the same thing but at different positions and in diff ways to work within the rest of your offense, again depending on who you currently have, and where.

for sure.

The tricky part is we've been so bad defensively that it's hard to project whether McD or Stauskas would hamstring us more. I do know that a Burke-Stauskas-Hayward trio would be downright pathetic. You couldn't play them all at the same time. Maybe an engaged Favors would offset McD?

I'd say you stay away from both players..... which shouldn't be hard since they'll likely fall between our two picks.

Tell me, posters of Jazzfanz: Is there a Jimmy Butler in this draft?

Utah needs a Jimmy Butler with their GS pick. Pls pls pls lets try and find ourselves a good 3andD. I'll even take a Jae Crowder FFS.

I actually think McDermott will get by on defense against the other team's weaker forward. He'll get a few rebounds too. I think he's an automatic floor spacer and a good mid-range shooter if he gets chased off the 3pt line. He's worth having. Guys in the league like Dirk and Steph Curry or even Carmello aren't in the league for their defense. If it's really a problem, then sure take him out and put in a guy like Marvin Williams for whatever matchup is needed. Run him off a pick and he's sure to pull an extra defender out of position. Being able to do that out on the floor at his size, is a real plus.

Wait, do you want a Jimmy Butler or a 3 and D guy? Or do you really think Butler is a 3 and D guy?
